He shrugged. “I used a computer in the security room to continue my research.” Jon inclined his head toward the water. “Drink or David will be angry with us for not taking care of you.”

“Can’t have that.” She wrote the final website address for Dana, then exited from the search engine. “Thanks for the use of your computer.” After tearing out the page with the websites she wanted to follow up on later, Emma handed the notepad, pen, and laptop to Jon. “This will help Dana get started.”

He skimmed the list. “If she has questions, are you willing to talk to her?”

“Of course. I love to teach others to knit. It’s a passion of mine.”

The front door opened.

Between one breath and the next, Jon was out of his chair, his weapon in hand and pointed at the doorway to the kitchen.

“It’s Eli and David,” Wolf Pack’s leader called. “We’re coming in soft.”

Jon didn’t holster his gun until his friend and David walked in.

Emma hurried into David’s open arms. “Hi.”

“How are you?” he murmured.

“Better now that you’re here.”

He squeezed her tighter. “Any problems while we were gone, Jon?”

“Nope.”

“Sit rep.” This from Eli.

“Rafe set the traps we discussed. He’s in the security room.”

A frown. “He’s off duty.”

“He wanted Jackson to keep an eye on Emma.”

David drew back to look down at her. “Em?” Concern filled his eyes.

“I’m fine. I was shaky when we first arrived, but thanks to the tea Jackson made for me and Jon’s distraction, I’m back to normal.”

Jon chuckled. “Caught me.”

“Will your wife be interested in the list I put together?”

“Of course. I didn’t lie to you. Dana loves to learn new things, and she’s always looking for ways to cope with anxiety and stress.” His expression darkened. “Some days are better than others for her.”

Hmm. Sounded like Dana had a traumatic past. The knowledge sent a surge of sympathy rolling through Emma. “If she needs a sympathetic friend, give her my number.”

The operative studied her a moment, then gave a slow nod. “I’ll do that, but Dana is slow to warm up to strangers.”

“She does have someone to talk to?”

“She and Eli’s wife, Brenna, are best friends as well as sisters.”

“What else happened, Jon?” David asked.

The sniper scowled.

Eli and Jackson chuckled. “Losing your ice-man persona?” Eli teased.

“Shut up. You are expendable, you know.”
