A short laugh. “I was a SEAL, like you. We get the job done however we have to. I’ll never admit that I enjoy beating the feds’ online security, but if you want me to hack their databases, I’m in.”

David smiled. “Good. I need everything the FBI has on the Butcher. SAC Jordan isn’t sharing intel. His version of sharing is a one-way street.”

“Craig Jordan?”

“Yeah. You know him?”

Murphy groaned. “Unfortunately. I’ll be happy to copy his files on the Butcher. Tell me your email address.” When David complied, the Fortress tech said, “I’ll send everything to your email. What else do you need?”

He listed the addresses of Emma’s safe houses. “Look for security or traffic cam footage at the safe houses and the beach house the Tuckers rented.”

“I’m not sure I’ll have much success with the beach house, but I’ll try.” Zane spouted off his phone number. “Add my number in your contact list. Text me if you think of anything else.”

“Thanks.”

“Yep. Later, David and Emma.” He ended the call.

“Maddox doesn’t mess around, does he?” Emma said. “Your call with him ended five minutes ago, but you already have tech help.”

“He only hires the best.” But was Zane the man for this job?

David’s cell phone rang again. He frowned, glancing at the readout. Answering the call, he said, “Jon, how are you?”

“That’s what I called to ask you. The boss said you needed help with a problem. What’s going on?”

Relief flooded him. Maddox must have assigned Wolf Pack to help him protect Emma. “First, you’re on speaker with Emma, my girlfriend.” He explained what he needed and why.

A soft whistle. “Wolf Pack will be in Maple Valley in three hours unless you need us sooner.”

“That’s great. Thanks, Jon.”

“I’ll touch base with Zane before we load up and see if he needs a hand.”

“You know him well?” He needed the best tech help available. The odds of Zane finding useful footage was slim. As for the FBI’s information on the Butcher, if Zane wasn’t able to find it, Jon could unearth the information for him.

“Oh, yeah. Zane has saved our hides more times than we can count. He’s a tech and communication wizard. You’re in great hands, but Z is in high demand by our teams. If a team is in a hot zone, he’ll shift priorities and shuffle your search requests down the list. If I help with your research, we’ll obtain results sooner. See you soon.”

David sat back and hugged Emma. “Fast work, indeed.”

“Who is Jon?”

“A fellow SEAL, legendary sniper, and skilled interrogator.”

“He works for Fortress?”

He nodded. “Jon is a member of Wolf Pack, a team of SEALs. His team was in Maple Valley two months ago, and used a home nearby for a safe house. I’d trust those boys with my life and yours.”

She smiled. “And you want to do what they do.”

“Who wouldn’t want the freedom to right a wrong or protect an innocent using skills the military taught us?” He stood and held out his hand. “Come with me.”

“Where are we going?”

“For a short walk. It’s a beautiful day, and I want to show you something you’ll like.”

“I thought you didn’t want me to be seen around the ranch.”

He nudged her toward the solarium’s door leading to the backyard. “Apparently, the Butcher already knows. Besides, where I’m taking you, we’re unlikely to run across anyone this time of day.”
