His brothers chuckled.

“I need to update Jordan, then call a friend to request technical help with security and traffic cam footage. Get going. I have the watch.”

“I’ll go.” Caleb pushed back from the table and stood. “Elliot will stay. You need one of us here for backup.” He gathered the bagged evidence and left.

Elliot rose. “I’ll be in the security room, watching the monitors.” After a glance at Emma, he left the room.

“Mrs. Grady is in her apartment,” David said. “If you tell her your sizes, she’ll be glad to pick up clothes for you.”

“I’d appreciate that.” She desperately wanted to change into fresh clothes. “Would she mind buying basic toiletries, too?”

“I doubt it, but we’ll ask.” He knocked on Mrs. Grady’s door.

When she opened it, she asked, “Everything all right out there?”

“Nothing dangerous. A note and pictures. Do you have time to do Emma a favor?”

“Of course. What do you need, dear?”

“A few changes of clothes and basic toiletries. I hate to ask, but I had to leave everything behind.”

The older woman grabbed a notepad and pen. “Write down your sizes and what you need. I’ll take care of it for you.”

Emma completed the list and handed it to Mrs. Grady with a hug. “Thank you. I have money to pay for everything.”

David trailed his hand down Emma’s back. “I have it covered. Use the ranch credit card, Mrs. G.”

“I’ll be back soon.” Mrs. Grady grabbed her handbag.

“We’ll be in the solarium. If we have to relocate before you return, I’ll tell you where to meet us.”

Relocate? Emma’s heart sank. Would she have to go on the run again?

CHAPTER TEN

David hated the expression of fear on Emma’s face. He knew the killer would find them, but this fast? Either Jordan had a leak in his unit or the Marshals had loose lips. Either way, he intended to locate and plug the leak.

He dropped a light kiss on Emma’s mouth. “Come on. We have calls to make.”

With his hand pressed against her lower back, David guided Emma to the solarium. When they returned to the bench, he contacted Craig Jordan, placing the call on speaker.

“Yeah, Jordan.” The FBI agent sounded distracted.

“It’s Montgomery. Can you talk?”

“Hold.” The agent’s voice became muffled as he spoke to someone nearby. After a moment, he returned. “Go.”

“We have a problem.”

“Is she safe?”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

“A package was delivered, addressed to your witness.” While David’s phone was encrypted, he didn’t know what safety measure Jordan had on his own cell phone. He refused to confirm Emma’s whereabouts with a careless word.

Jordan swore.
