“We’ll probably be here two days,” Cal said, his fingers threaded through Rachelle’s. “If I think Rachelle is still in danger, we’ll go on a vacation out of the limelight.”

“Somewhere sunny with sand,” Rachelle muttered. “I’m still cold from the river.”

“That sounds like a story,” Mrs. Grady said. “I want to hear every detail.”

An hour later, the housekeeper shook her head. “I can’t believe the Under Secretary of State was responsible for so much evil and death. You sure he’s dead?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Cal said. “We’re sure.”

“Can’t say I’m sorry. Now, do you want the same rooms?”

“If you don’t mind.” Rachelle squeezed her hand. “I like being surrounded by a bunch of handsome, fierce men.”

“Hey,” Cal groused, eyes twinkling. “The only man’s face you’re supposed to notice is mine.”

The rest of Wolf Pack chuckled.

“I don’t blame you for wanting to be surrounded by security specialists, especially after the harrowing experiences you’ve been through.” Mrs. Grady shooed them out of the kitchen. “Relax and enjoy yourselves. You’ve earned the time off.”

Except Wolf Pack wasn’t off duty. Rachelle walked with Cal to the living room. “Is it safe to go outside now?”

“I think so. Want to go for a walk?”

“I’d like to sit on the porch swing with you.”

Cal snagged a blanket from the back of a couch. On the swing, he draped the blanket across Rachelle’s lap and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “So, Ms. Carter, which beach would you like to visit?”

“One busy, but not packed with people.” Hopefully, Cal would be able to enjoy the sand and surf, too.

“Perfect. Do you swim?”

She grinned. “You couldn’t tell after the river rescue?”

He snorted. “Floating face-down in the water doesn’t count.”

“I can swim although I’m not in the same league as you.”

“Ever gone snorkeling?”

She shook her head. “I’ve always wanted to, though.”

“I’ll set up a snorkeling expedition for us.”

Her smile faded. “Will we have to hide, Cal?”

“We might. I’m considering this a vacation to relax with the woman I love, not dodging bad guys with a penchant for revenge.”

“What about my job?” Having just passed her first anniversary at Fortress, she didn’t have much vacation time built up.

“Don’t worry about that.”

“Easy for you to say. You’re not an hourly employee.”

He kissed her forehead. “Things will work out.”

His cell phone signaled an incoming call. Checking the screen, Cal took the call on speaker. “You’re on speaker with Rachelle.”

“How are you, Rachelle?”
