“Did he clear out his belongings?”
“He left a few old clothes.” She glanced at Matt, eyebrows lifted.
“Tell him,” he murmured.
“Tell me what?” Russell demanded.
“Someone trashed the bedroom we think Randy used along with the master bedroom.” Matt pulled out his cell phone and let Russell scroll through the pictures he took of the damage.
A soft whistle from the detective. “Somebody was angry. The rest of the house like this?”
“Just these two rooms.”
“But no proof Holloway did the damage.”
“The damage was limited to their personal rooms. If a stranger broke in, the whole house would look the same.”
“That still leaves the Frosts. I’m assuming you’ll give Ms. Frost an alibi.”
“Of course. Cade and Sasha were with us most of the morning.”
“Why am I not surprised by that?” Russell rubbed his fingers over his jaw. “All right. I’d like a copy of the will.”
Matt stood. “We have an extra copy in the SUV.” He hoisted his mike bag and strode to his vehicle. After storing his medical supplies in the cargo area, he grabbed a copy of the will from his glove box and returned. “Have you brought Holloway in for questioning yet?”
“He’s in an interrogation room, cooling his heels as we speak.”
“Find out if he knows how to construct a bomb.”
Russell’s gaze sharpened. “You’re sure it was a bomb?”
“Cade spotted it. He’s trained in EOD.”
The detective slid his notebook, pen, and the will into his pocket. “I’ll have a word with the officers cordoning off the area, then talk to Holloway. I don’t see him for this, but I’ve been surprised before.” With a nod, he crossed the street to the nearest officer keeping the curious away from the emergency workers and equipment.
Matt helped Delilah stand. “I want to check on Cade and Sasha.”
As he drove to the hospital, Matt remained alert for a tail. He didn’t bother turning squares to avoid being followed. Wouldn’t take a genius to know where he was going.
When he turned into the hospital parking lot, he noticed the black truck in his wake also turned into the lot. The back of Matt’s neck burned. Not good.
With the sun glare on the truck’s windshield, he couldn’t see the occupants. Matt parked and stayed in place with the engine running, watching the truck pull into an empty slot four rows back.
Delilah rested her hand on his forearm. “What’s wrong?”
“We picked up a tail. Let’s wait a minute and see if someone gets out. You mind being used as camouflage?”
She grinned. “As long as it’s you doing the using, I’ll be happy to do my part.”
Matt laughed and drew her into his arms. “I need to look out the back window.”
“Ah. Does that mean I have permission to nibble on your neck and ears?”
“Go for it.” He twisted to keep an eye on the truck and still appear to be engaged in making out with his girl. With his lips barely touching hers, he said, “Will this make you uncomfortable?”
“Being in the arms of the man I’m crazy about and stealing a kiss or two will make me want more kisses when we’re not in public.”
Matt threaded his fingers into her hair and tilted her head to press his lips more firmly to hers. “I’ll be happy to fulfill that request.”
