“Why are they staring at us?” Sage asked, and Ginger just shook her head.
It was a little weird. Maybe they thought they were someone else? Regardless, their eyes were locked on the door as Jacob lifted the handle, and some of them appeared to take deep breaths. Like they were sniffing the air.
“Holy fucking hotness,” Sage murmured.
“Maybe it’s a cutie convention.” Anise giggled.
“I don’t care what it is, I refuse to be in these travel clothes any longer. Sisters, we are changing into our bathing suits, and hitting the beach,” Sage commanded.
“Yes, general.” Anise mock saluted.
“Shut up.” Sage grinned.
There she was, giving orders, like always. Sage claimed it was her right as the eldest. She often came off as haughty and snobbish to those who didn’t know her, but Ginger knew better.
The three Freeman girls had a bond most siblings could only imagine. Without a mother to raise them, they had looked to their father to teach them most things. Like the proper way to catch and gut a fish when they were kids, and how to pair wine with meals when they became adults. But for everything else, they had only each other.
Ginger was surprised she hadn’t come up with that line about the cutie convention. Anise was normally the more conservative of the three. But she just laughed. Okay, she snorted at Ani’s and Sage’s silly back-and-forth banter. But the butterflies in her stomach had suddenly turned into thunderbirds, beating their wings, and making her whole-body tremble in anticipation. For what? She had no earthly idea.
It was true. As Sage and Ani had so rightly observed, there was an unusual number of good-looking men walking around. If only there was someone for her out there. She bit her lip, brushing her long red locks behind her ears. The strangest premonition took root in her mind as Jacob opened their door.
The sisters all glanced at one another, hesitating to get out of the car. Nodding at them both, Ginger took the first step. As her sandaled foot hit the pavement, she knew without a doubt whatever happened that weekend, it was going to change everything.
