“Hey Mags, I was just checking if you were okay in here?” Tim stood in the doorway, his eyes glowed gold with his Wolf as he took in their obvious positions.
She noted the growl in his voice and wondered why the Werewolf would be all proprietary over her when she’d hardly said more than two words to him in the last six months. It was strange, but she knew from her experience with Shifters that this was about to get worse.
Stepping out from behind Alex, she laid her hand on his chest when he would’ve pressed forward.
“Of course, Tim, thank you, but I’m fine. We are fine,” she looked at Alex, and noted the strain around his eyes and jaw.
If he clenched his teeth any harder, she was certain he’d break something. Instead of walking over to Tim, like she normally would have. Maggie stayed where she was and leaned into Alex’s side. He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her against him, easing something inside them both.
“Okay,” Tim said, stopping his aggressive stance in favor of a smile, “Just making sure. Pack and all,” he winked then walked out of the office.
“What was that?” she turned to Alex.
“What?” he cocked his head to the side, waiting for an explanation, or so she’d assumed.
“You can’t ignore me for days, then kiss me-”
“That was so much more than kissing, kit. Like a preview or a promise of what I have in store for you, Maggie mine,” he stated, taking the wind out of her sails for a moment.
“Whatever,” she said, but there was no real oomph behind the word. She swallowed then continued, “It doesn’t give you the right to go caveman on me.”
“The hell it doesn’t,” he moved like lightning. She never saw him coming.
One second he was standing to the side, the next his big body was towering over her. Those long soccer player legs of his ate up the space between them in the blink of an eye.
“Listen to me, kit,” he held her arms firmly in his hands, but tenderly, gently, all the same, “I am staking my claim, not out loud yet. Not until you tell me I can. This is just between you and me. And between you and me, you might as well know why I went all caveman as you put it,” he dropped a hard kiss on her mouth, like he couldn’t help himself, and cursed softly before continuing.
“Fuck. Look, kit, my Tiger did not like his hands on you before, so yeah, I may have gone a little overboard with you in here, but that is because you’remine.”
“I am not a thing to be owned-”
“No, you are not somethingto be owned, Maggie. You are a flesh and blood woman,my woman, and you’re meant to be cherished, protected, and loved. That’s right, kit, I said it. I know we aren’t there yet, but we will get there, don’t you worry,” he growled, “So when I kiss you, and when I make you fall apart in my arms like that you damn well better believe I’ll get all caveman on you. Your sighs, your scent, the glazed passionate look in your eyes, all of it, belongs to me and me alone. I won’t share you with anyone else, kit. I can’t.”
Holy fucking shit. Maggie couldn’t think straight. Did he really just say all that? He was staring at her lips again, and she wanted them on hers so badly, but first she really had to respond to all this misplaced machismo.
“You know, you sound like an ass when you say things like that,” she stated.
But if she were being totally honest, Maggie would tell him to say them again. Each and every word. Slower this time, so she could memorize them.
“I can live with that, kitten,” he smirked, “but just so you know, I’m yourass. Stripes and all.”
“You wish.”
“I know, kit. In here I know,” he patted his chest, and once again she felt her own heart ache in response.
“It’s not that easy, Alex.Iam not that easy,” she narrowed her eyes and pushed against his chest harder, slightly disappointed when he moved.
He let her go, as she knew he would. If only he didn’t look so tempting standing there with his hair disheveled from where she’d pulled on it.
What could she say, really? He was a fantastic kisser. And,well, he was good at other things too. Damn good. She’d even left nail prints in his shoulders.
Ignoring those and the still hard length of him in his jogging shorts, Maggie turned around. She couldn’t allow herself to be seduced by his pretty words and a few heated touches.
“This isn’t over, Maggie,” he said, but she kept on walking right out of the office.
He’d made some sort of declaration in there. But that didn’t mean she had to go along with it.
But you want to.
