Together

Isaac

Thiswasadream. It had to be. We were finally one. Our souls bonded. Nothing could keep us apart anymore.

Every small bit of doubt I had inside me had faded away. The fear that snaked around my heart was gone and so was the loss of control over Logan. Only one thing remained—love.

With every steady heartbeat, I could sense it expand, but not only that. Something else.

As she lay here in my arms, on the soft ground covered in leaves, I could sense how she was healing, how every scar inside her, and even the ones painted on her inner thighs, were healing.

Her wolf was scratching to the surface, coiling inside her. Strengthening Joanne in every way possible.

Her scent was changing. A new one joined the sweetness. A scent only a wolf carried.

Joanne would finally have what she wanted and be whole again.

She stirred slightly in my arms, and I waited for her eyes to flutter open, eager to see her wolf.

Logan edged to the surface, and I smiled. He was nervous. He knew Joanne loved him and cared for him in every way, but he didn’t know how her wolf would react to him.

“She will love him as I do,” Joanne suddenly whispered and slowly opened her eyes. “Your thoughts are really loud.”

My smile widened, and I tugged her closer. “You will learn to shield yourself from them. I don’t want to be the one that does that.”

Quickly shaking her head. “No, don’t shut me out.”

“Never again.”

A small red shimmer showed in her eyes, and she gasped, noticing the changes too.

“What was that?” she breathed, sitting up.

“Your wolf.” I watched her closely, eager to know if the fire from before would show itself again.

She couldn’t control it yet, but it would be useful when we went after William. He should have the same powers as me, meaning I couldn’t defeat him.

But she could. I knew she could.

“Do you feel any different?”

“I feel happy, whole, if that makes any sense.” A nervous laugh fell from her lips, and I inched closer.

“I feel the same.” With all that was moving between us, it could be overwhelming. All her feelings and thoughts were now combined with mine. It would take some time to get used to.

Her lips parted, ready to speak again, but when Finlay stepped into sight, she held her tongue. Quickly shielding her body with mine and using some of the remains of our torn clothes, I held his gaze.

“It’s done,” he said, tossing some new clothes our way.

“How did they react?” I asked a knowing grin tilted on my lips.

“They are freaking out, readying the army and everything. I hope you know what you are doing.”

“We only need one more thing from you.”

His jaw ticked, and he averted his eyes. This position he was in wasn’t the way he wanted it. He was loyal to the throne, and this must have felt like betraying all he ever believed in.

However, with everything he had learned, he chose to follow Joanne. It didn’t surprise me, though, with what she told me about him. He was supposed to be her Beta. I don’t think she realized that yet, but he was.
