“You have till the end of the day to leave here.” A growl rumbled in his chest, but it did nothing for me. I was mated to the big bad wolf; I wasn’t going to be afraid of this one.

“Or?” I smiled, feeling Isaac was moving closer, knowing he could show up any minute.

“Let’s hope you won’t find—” He started so strong, but he had to swallow his last words when Isaac’s hand collared his throat and lifted him off the ground as if he weighed nothing.

The tightness of his grip made it impossible for the man to breathe. Slowly, I rested my hand on Isaac’s shoulder; the tension in his body faded under my touch.

“It’s okay.”

“He was threatening you,” Isaac scoffed. His grip hardened, but not enough to stop the man’s words.

“You two need to leave.” His voice was hoarse and broken, and my brows furrowed together when I heard the hint of fear beneath his words.

“Why?”

Isaac released the man, letting him catch his breath, and after a few coughs, the color of his face returned, and he met my gaze, not daring to look at Isaac.Pussy.

His jaw clenched, and the turmoil in his eyes made me wonder if he feared someone other than Isaac.

His arrogance was nowhere to be found; now, only a scared man stood before me, and when he sighed, he found his voice again.

“Just go west, and head towards the mountains. You can’t miss it,” he mumbled.

It didn’t make any sense, the mountains he spoke of. We had already been there. “You know what we are searching for?”

“No, but—” he paused, scratching the back of his neck, and finally grew enough balls to look at Isaac. “The mark doesn’t work, right? That’s why you scent marked her?”

Isaac’s anger spiked, and I gasped for air, holding onto his arm for balance. But when he saw the effect he had on me, he closed his eyes, shielding his emotions from mine. I hated when he did that. I wanted to feel everything.

“Why send us west?” I asked, not letting Isaac speak.

“It’s a full moon tomorrow, and it says there is a place in the mountains that the moon goddess herself blesses.”

I wanted to trust him, believing this weird stranger had some answers for us, but it still didn’t feel right. Or was that the last remnants of Isaac’s paranoia squirming through the wall he put up?

I sighed. “Why did you want me gone?” He still hadn’t answered that, talking over it with this marking business. Pressing the spot that harmed Isaac the most.

His eyes glanced around. “Some rumors are going around, and I don’t want my pack to be caught in the middle.”

I hummed and pulled Isaac with me, not giving the man a second glance. There wasn’t anything to talk about. He wasn’t going to say anything anyway.

However, if they knew Isaac was still alive, we had to move. I couldn’t even let my mind wonder how they found out. Maybe someone saw him, or…No, I shouldn’t think about that. William and Conner were a tremendous help. They wouldn’t betray us.

I shook my head, my mind taking me to Conner. He was still mated to that raging bitch. Maybe she had used their bond to find us and saw Isaac. No, that couldn’t be it. Conner would have known if she was close or he was helping her.

I was swift, grabbing everything we needed, but I froze when I realized something. The turmoil in my mind came to a halt.

“What’s wrong?” Isaac whispered, his eyes scanning over my body.

I glanced down, repeatedly counting my fingers while fear rose beneath my skin.

“Joanne,” Isaac’s voice became louder, panic lacing it.

“I’m late.” My eyes met his, and he immediately gazed away, but not before I saw it. Didn’t he want me to get pregnant? Or did he fear it was… Oh, god no.

“Are you sure?” he mumbled, resuming our route while holding onto my arm a little too tightly. Was he angry?

“Isaac, you’re hurting me,” I whimpered. He released his grip, guilt flashing through his gaze, and he rubbed my arm, mumbling that he was sorry.
