“Yes, I have a few more tests tomorrow but everything is fine.” She gently cupped my cheek, rubbing her thumb over it, and I leaned into her touch. Savoring it.
“Are you sure?” I pressed.
“Of course.”
There it was again.Of course.
She could pretend all she wanted, but I knew she was hiding from me. Still believing she had to do things on her own.
She would tell me when she was ready and maybe finding our stalker would help her.
“Do you want to go hunting, little bird?”
Her eyes widened and a blush formed. “Hunt?”
I hummed, placing a kiss on her hand. “Well, you wanted everything I had to offer, right?” Tilting my head to the side, daring her to come back on her words.
“Yes, everything.” Her eyes glinted with mischief and the sight alone made my cock throb.
My little bird, so fucking perfect.

Shedidn’tseemsurprisedwhen I told her we were being watched. However, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed when she said she didn’t want me to hurt whoever we were tracking. She wanted to talk first.
“Maybe they don’t mean us any harm, Isaac.”
I groaned, sulking like a baby. “Is this because you have been here in the past?”
She slowly nodded, tears welled in her eyes, and she quickly blinked them away.
“You never need to hide from me, Joanne.” I watched her, making sure she heard every word I had said. Because it was the truth. I wanted to know the good and the bad, just everything she had to offer.
“Neither do you.”
A smile curled on my lips. “And still I can’t get my hands dirty,” I teased, pulling her closer.
“Patience.” She laughed, running her fingers over my shirt and Logan edged to the surface, wanting to have a closer look at our mate.
“And you too have to wait, Logan.” With a narrowed gaze, she moved out of my hold, and Logan snickered inside my mind.
He was taking this better than I would have imagined. It had been a while since he let his dark side out, and I feared if I kept his urges away for too long it would bite me in the ass later.
“Again, blaming me.” He scoffed.
“Okay, it isn’t only you.” My hands itched with this need for blood. I was a born warrior, and I needed a good fight. Especially since I lost my last one.
Shame moved through me, an emotion I hoped I would never feel in my life. However, I quickly hid it away when a soft breeze carried a scent. The smell of fire tickled my nostrils and my skin heated in response. Before I could inhale it deeply, it had disappeared and nothing other than the fresh summer’s day scent of Joanne lingered around me.
My lips parted, ready to ask her if she had noticed too, but then I remembered she couldn’t. She doesn’t have a heightened sense of smell. She was human.
“Or…”Logan started, and I knew exactly what he was going to say. He wanted to turn her, make her like us. But I could never. It would harm her more than I would want, probably even kill her.
“Don’t you dare,” I snapped back, and it seemed my words were spoken aloud when Joanne turned with a confused expression on her face.
“What am I not allowed to do?” A daring smile formed on her lips and my jaw clenched, pushing back the hunger that surfaced. This uncontrollable need to have her again.
