“Are you sure you don’t want to grab a hotel room?” I question again as we’re walking downstairs.
“Positive. It’s a short flight anyway.”
We lean in at the same time to hug each other, “I’m so glad we’re doing this.”
“Me too. And anytime you want a tour of DC, you have my number.”
A soft laugh slips out, “I’m gonna take you up on that.”
The Uber Nina ordered pulls up to the curb next to us.
“This is me.”
“I hope you get home safe.”
She pulls open the back passenger door, “Thanks Kamryn. I’ll see you later.”
I watch the car drive off and head back up to the office.
“Mason?” I call out when I get home. Home. It’s so weird that we live together.
I hear his steps coming down the stairs. “Hey, baby. How was work with Nina?”
Wrapping my arms around his waist, I absorb his warmth. “Really good. What we have planned is going to be so beneficial for women, and men, that they’ll be kissing the ground we walk on.”
My head vibrates as his chest shakes with a laugh. “Are you done working for the night?”
“Yeah. Why?” I ask, leaning back to look up at him.
“I wanna take you somewhere.”
“I don’t need to grab anything?”
“Nope. Well, your phone if you want it.”
I do as he says and then we’re locking up my house before jumping in his truck. Looking over at him driving takes me back to when he drove us to the beach house our first summer together.
He sees me looking over at him. “What are you thinking about ya goof?”
“Our trip to the beach during our first summer together.” It comes out more melancholy than I had hoped. That’s when our downfall happened. But even I can’t deny that our summer at the beach was epic.
“That was a fun summer,” he agrees with me.
I face forward and take in the scenery as he drives.
Mason
I’ve been pacing and nervous all day. When Kamryn told me Nina was coming in for the day to brainstorm a collaboration, I knew it was the perfect day.
When Kamryn asked me to move in with her, that next day I contacted my realtor that I was looking for a house. It was quick work, but she found one that I knew Kamryn would love. As much as I love her house, it’s cramped. And I plan to have a family with her. Lots of kids hopefully. The process of purchasing the house was quick. Since I was paying all-cash, it was easy to bypass all of the contingencies.
I got the call early this morning that the house was all mine. So while Kamryn was at work, I went down to my realtors office to sign all of the required papers. Once the keys were in my hand, I enlisted the help of Kam’s girls to set up an epic surprise. One that’s got my heart rate slightly raised.
While the house is a done deal, I have no clue where her head’s at. She gets lost in that beautiful mind of herssometimes, and while it’s scary she always comes back to me.
Peaking over at her as I slow down and turn into a gated neighborhood, I bite the inside of my cheek to stop from smiling.
“Mason, where are we?” my curious koala asks.
