I enjoyed the silence for a long time, then closed my eyes and burst into a loud laugh.

Josh joined me, and we both laughed for a long time before we looked at each other again. “It’s quiet,” he said as he dragged in a deep breath. “The house is quiet. I don’t think it’s ever been quiet since Zackary came.”

“It hasn’t.”

Josh laughed some more, then he angled his body towards me, stroked my chin, and smiled. “We did it,” he said as he stared deep into my eyes. “We managed to keep our son alive for two years.”

“The worst is yet to come,” I told him, then scooted closer and leaned into him. I rested my head on his shoulder, sighed and let the warmth from his body seep into me.

“His birthday is tomorrow, we have to make it work or else we won’t hear the end of it,” I said, then tried to get on my feet again, but he pulled me down to the chair again and kissed my forehead.

“Let’s savor this moment for a bit,” he said. “It’ll be over in a few hours.”

Josh kissed me before I could reply to him. His lips sealed mine for a sweet kiss, and the moment escalated when I put my hands around his neck and kissed him harder. His tongue was in my mouth now, and this was the moment I knew we had both been craving for a long time.

The kisses led to more, and he led me to our bedroom, locked the door then set the pace. I kissed him back and ran my hands down his entire body. My love and passion for this man had not dwindled one bit.

We made love that afternoon, and it was just as magical as it was the first time. My heart beat for him, and my love for him still raced through me like every breath I took and that was it.

Nothing had changed for me, and I hoped it was the same for him. It was like Josh was reading my mind because as soon as he kissed his way to my lips, he paused, then stared deep into my eyes and said. “I love you, Bree. I love you as much today as I did they first day I said it”

“I love you too, Josh,” I repeated, then kissed him on the lips and giggled before making him lay down on the bed so I could take charge. I kissed my way down his body and enjoyed the feel of his sinew muscles.

Making love to Josh was like a rush for fresh air. I felt the sizzling tension charge the air around us. Every moment I spent with him was like magic. Josh was the best part of my life and that would never change.

We cuddled later on, and Josh kept caressing my hands and bare skin until I fell asleep in his arms. That evening, we went to pick Zackary up from daycare and he was so excited as he told us all about his day in words I could barely understand.

Zackary was always a handful, and I loved that he was so energetic. Allison and my dad came for dinner that night, and Samuel was excited to see his little nephew.

Both boys played around the living room while Josh and my dad worked, Allison and I stayed on the back porch.

“He’s a handful isn’t he?” Allison asked as we fixed dinner, and I laughed with her while telling her all about Zackary. Once dinner was ready, we all gathered around the table to eat.

The boys were chatting as they ate their pasta, and frankly, I thought only they could understand what they were saying. The boys talking to each other was a good thing. At least that way the adults could rest while they were at it.

They played in the living room after that, and I sat with Josh, Allison, and my dad in the living room to enjoy a glass of wine. The conversation in the living room was loud and we were laughing at some joke Allison told.

The doorbell rang at some point, and I got up to check. Iris was standing on the other end when I opened the door, and they were tears in her eyes as she stared at me, and my lips parted without any words coming out.

“Iris?” I called out loud so everyone in the living room could hear me.

“I’m getting a divorce,” Iris announced before she pushed past me and walked into the house. Her gait was more of a limp, and I noticed it was because of the heels when she kicked them off.

This was a new start for all of us, but Iris was more important to me int this moment and I had to find out what was going on with her.

The End
