Mac wasn't like that, but what if he had an ulterior motive? What if he didn't really want Eleanor part of the family and he was just saying that to get with her.

Both of them were a packaged deal. That was part of the reason she never tried to date. People didn't like it when they already had kids that weren't theirs.

"I'm not going anywhere," he said. "I want you to know that." Her back was turned towards him. What was she going to say? She didn't trust herself to say anything while she was so close to tears.

"I'll leave, but if you need anything text me," he said. "I'll check in with you later." Janie could hear him walking towards the door and she held her breath, trying to stop herself from breaking down. Just make it until he walks out of the door.

"Please lock the door," he said, his voice clearly distant like he was already at the door.

She heard the door close and that was when her legs decided it was time for her to sit on the ground. Sobs wracked her body.

He was saying all the right words and she wanted to believe him. She did believe him. But she didn't deserve him.

He was too good for her.

He deserved someone who didn't have a child already. Mac deserved someone who didn't have as much baggage as she did. He deserved so much better.

Why was he wanting her? Why did he want to take on the responsibility of a child and her? He knew she had arguments with her ex-husband about anything and everything.

But Janie wanted him so much. They had chemistry and she felt safe around him. He turned her on.

"Mama," Eleanor said as she snuggled into her chest.

"It's okay," she said through tears. "Everything is going to be okay."

Janie was reassuring herself more than she was her daughter. Eleanor didn't know what was going on right now. It was going to have to be okay. There wasn't anything else it could be.

Janie was going to have to be okay with not having Mac as her Daddy or lover. She needed to put her daughter first and she wasn't giving up her daughter.

Eleanor snuggled into Janie's chest more and she held on as she continued to cry.

CHAPTER SIX

JANIE

Janie laid on her stomach coloring in a bear. Echo, Elsha, Kyle, and Tucker were laying on their stomachs with her. She had been here for thirty minutes so far and none of them had really talked. That's how it always started. Silence while they focused and then the flood gates would open and no one would shut up.

But Janie liked that about their group. It gave everyone enough time to relax and think about things before discussions normally started. Granted, not every night was like that. Sometimes they were so deep into Littlespace that they didn't have deep conversations. But tonight wasn't one of those nights. Janie had seen some of the looks the other Littles gave each other.

No doubt Echo had said something to them about her and Mac. Not that she minded, well she did a little. That was one of the reasons she didn't tell Echo earlier. She could be a bit of a gossiper and she wasn't prepared for her stuff to be circulating around the Little group.

"So, have you talked to Mac yet?" Echo asked. All the other Little stopped coloring and looked at her. What was she going tosay? Yes, but it didn't turn out how she wanted or it turned out exactly how she wanted?

Mac was going to fight for her and Eleanor. Part of her was excited, but the other part wanted to scream and yell at him to stop. not to waste his time.

But would he listen to her? Probably not. He was stubborn and almost always got his way. Janie could count on her hand how many times she got her way when Mac was involved.

"Yeah," she whispered.

"How are you two doing?" Kyle asked.

"Nothing is happening and we aren't a thing," Janie said. "I know you guys are waiting for me to say something about it."

"Why?" Elsha asked.

"With the way he looks at you and how he's looking at you right now, I think he wants something to happen," Tucker said.

Janie turned around to see Mac already looking at her. She hadn't seen him come down stairs. But he always sat in the exact same spot each week. Janie sighed and looked at all of them.
