“I’ve got you.”
Every time she had cried in the past couple of days, it lasted forever. Was this because she had held it in for so long?
“Such a good girl. Just let it all out,” Daddy said.
Hedda shook her head. She wasn’t a good girl at all, and she didn’t deserve to be called that.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I’m not a good girl!” her voice was raised as she cried out again. “I’m a bad girl.”
Daddy held onto her. “You’re not a bad girl. Sure, you can be naughty but that doesn’t make you bad. You’re a good girl who is naughty.”
She shook her head and let out a sob. Everything wasn’t going to plan. Not that she had a plan anymore, but it was all turning into a disaster.
“I know Papa and I won’t change your mind right now,but we’ll remind you every day if we have to,” Daddy said. “You’re a good girl who is sometimes naughty. You’re not a bad person.”
He ran his hands up and down her back, and she felt herself calming down some.
“Can you tell me why you lied? What’s wrong?” Daddy asked.
Hedda knew she needed to tell him, but she didn’t know how he would react. Would he get mad at her for it?
“Safe place, Princess,” Daddy said.
She wondered why he called her princess. He hadn’t before she killed Richard. It was something newer.
“Why do you call me Princess?” she whispered, trying to change the subject.
“Nice try, Princess,” Daddy said. “We aren’t switching the subject.”
“Please, Daddy? I’ll tell you after.”
Maybe he would forget after he explained it. She hoped and wished.
“I call you Princess because you are one. You should be treated like a princess,” Daddy said. “But I also call you a Princess because your brother is the boss of the Ricci Crime Family which makes you the princess.”
Hedda blinked several times, trying to wrap her brain around what he just said. Had she heard him right?
“Now, tell me what’s wrong,” Daddy said. “Why aren’t you okay? And no lying unless you want a repeat.”
She clenched her butt cheeks. She didn’t want a repeat of what just happened.
“You and Papa should be mad at me,” she whispered.
“Why is that?”
“You shouldn’t want to be near me or want me after what I told you about killing Richard. You should and need to get rid of me.”
Daddy’s whole body went rigid as she finished speaking.
“Do you really believe that, deep down?” Papa asked.
Hedda’s head popped off of Daddy’s chest and she made eye contact with Papa. A gasp rang out of her mouth as she saw him standing a couple feet away from them.
When did he get here?
