Normally Hedda woke up screaming and thrashing in the bed. They had to hold her down or in their arms so she wouldn't hurt herself.
"True," Oliver replied.
Leo shrugged his shoulders. "Something to think on."
They had a lot of things to think about. There were several things they needed to get in order and figure out what to do. But they could wait till the morning.
"We'll talk in the morning," Leo said. "I'm going to bed. I'm exhausted."
He didn't wait for Oliver to say anything back to him. He just walked into his room, got ready, and went to bed.
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
HEDDA
"Hedda, can you sit down please?" Leo asked. "We want to talk to you about something."
Worry churned in her stomach. They had come up to her room and asked her to come to the living room because they wanted to talk to her. Talk about what? Was she in trouble?
Hedda showed that she didn't care about what they thought or did, but she did. It was hard not to when she spent almost every waking hour with them. They were slowly starting to crack the walls she had built around herself.
And that scared her.
She was trying so hard to not let them get to her but she was failing miserably. They were always there for her, ready to help her with anything and everything. They were proving to her that they weren't going anywhere. And they constantly reminded her.
"Please," Oliver said. "Sit."
She sat down on the couch and looked at them. Whatwere they going to tell her? Worry filled her even more as she started to think of all the possibilities.
Were they going to tell her they didn't want her anymore? She had to leave the house? She needed to tell them right away what had happened?
She didn't know if she could do that.
"We saw your brother at the wedding we just went to," Leo said.
Hedda's eyes went wide as she stared at both of them. They saw her brother at the wedding? She didn't know how to feel about that. Should she feel excited that he was in Missouri or should she feel dread?
She didn't want to go back to New York with her brother. If he was here for her, she didn't want to go back.
"Was he invited?" she whispered.
Everything in her hoped he was invited to the wedding. Maybe he had forgotten that she was even in Missouri. It was highly unlikely, but she could hope and dream.
Leo gave her a sad smile. "He wasn't."
Her heart sank, but she kept her face neutral. She didn't want to give anything away since she didn't know if they had called him or not. Maybe they did call Rogan to come get her. Did they not want her anymore?
Hedda blinked several times, trying to keep her eyes from filling up with tears. She could not show them weakness. If they had called Rogan, she didn't want to show them her weakness and how they affected her.
"It was a rather interesting meeting with him," Leo said.
"Interesting my ass," Oliver grumbled. "Your brother is an asshole."
"Oliver!" Leo punched his shoulder. "That's her brother. We're trying to win him over, not put him against us."
Hedda stared at both of them, not knowing what to do or say. She knew her brother could be an asshole. It wasn't anything new. She would be surprised if he wasn't an asshole to someone.
Her eyes went wide as she realized what Leo had just said. They were trying to win over her brother? Why?
