CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
HEDDA
They had been home for two days now. It felt great being back in Papa and Daddy's home in Missouri.
Her home.
She had never felt like this before. Content. Happy. Safe.
Actually safe.
Sure, she had been safe at Rogan's house, her home in New York, but it was different. Anyone could get into it easily.
But Papa and Daddy's home was different. Only a select few people could get in. And that brought her comfort.
Having her Papa and Daddy at her side also made things better. They made her feel safe and she knew they would do anything for her.
Anything.
And they had expressed that several times.
"Sweets," Papa said as he walked into the living room.
She was currently sitting on the couch watching Supernatural on the TV. She went between watching Scooby-Doo and Supernatural. Two of her favorite shows.
"Yes, Papa?" She asked as she paused the episode.
"Are you happy here?" Daddy asked as he sat down next to her.
She nodded her head. "I am. I really am."
"That's good," Papa said.
"I love it here. I feel comfortable and so welcome. I feel safe."
"We love to hear that," Daddy said. "It makes us happy."
She smiled at them. It was the truth and she would tell them that any time they wanted to hear it.
"We got invited to something for Sofia and Jaxson in a couple of hours," Papa said.
Ah, so that's the real reason they came into the room. They had told her to go snuggle on the couch and watch a show while they finished up some work. That it would take them a couple of hours.
An hour hadn't even passed.
"Would you like to go?" Daddy asked. "They invited all three of us."
Hedda let out her breath slowly. She could feel the nerves running through her body with that question. She had only met Charlotte and Monroe out of the group.
She had no doubt there would be other people from the group. Would they like her? Would she get on everyone's nerves?
"I don't know," she whispered.
"What are you thinking?" Papa asked. "What's wrong?"
Hedda shrugged her shoulders.
"We're not having any of that," Daddy said. "Communication."
