But she didn't care. She wanted to get to them to touch them. See if they were real as her eyes were playing out.

Hedda didn't know what she would do if they weren't real.

"Hedda!" Rogan yelled.

Her feet touched the last step, and she made a dash for Papa and Daddy. But before she could reach them, an arm wrapped around her.

"No!" she screamed. "Papa! Daddy!"

Hedda looked up and saw her brother holding her. His other arm was stretched out, pointing a gun towards Papa and Daddy.

"No!" she yelled. "Don't shoot."

It was her nightmare happening all over again. Was he going to kill them? Was she going to have to watch?

Hedda thrashed around in his arm, trying to break free. He tightened his hold against her, and she let out a whimper.

"Let me go!" she yelled. "Papa. Daddy."

She wanted them. They were real and she wanted to go towards them.

"Stay still," Rogan yelled at her.

"No! Let me go!"

She looked over at Daddy and he caught her eye.

"Princess," he said. "Be a good girl and stay still. I don't want you to get hurt."

"Please, Sweets," Papa said. "You're going to be okay."

Hedda shook her head. She didn't want anything to happen to them. She needed to get to them so Rogan wouldn't shoot. He wouldn't shoot her, right?

"Princess," Daddy said. "Stay still now. I don't want to have to spank your bottom."

She willed her body to still, not liking it one bit.

Rogan's body tensed up when she stopped moving. Did he think she wouldn't pay attention to her Papa or Daddy? They had threatened to spank her, and she didn't want that.

"Will you do everything to protect her?" Rogan asked. "That even in the face of danger, you'll put her first. That she'll be your top priority."

Daddy growled. "Of fucking course, we will."

"She'll be our top priority. Her safety comes first and she won't be getting hurt," Papa said.

Tears pooledin her eyes.

"She's our fucking life," Daddy said. "We'll do anything for her. Protect her with our lives."

The tears ran down her face as she blinked. She knew they cared about her, but she didn't know her safety was so important to them. They had always told her they would be looking out and she was safe.

But hearing this was something else.

It solidified everything.

"Daddy," her voice broke. "Papa."

"You're okay, Sweets," Papa said. "Stay still."
