“I’m real and I’m here to take away something you hold dear to your heart,” he chuckled. “Well, two.”
Her eyes went wide, and she flew out of her chair. Hedda reached back, trying to grab her gun but came up short.
“Shit,” she whispered. “Where is my fucking gun?”
Realization dawned on her. She hadn’t held a gun since she first killed him. After that, she locked itaway.
“Missing your gun?” Richard said. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered.”
Hedda watched as he walked towards Papa and Daddy. She went to take a step forward, but her feet wouldn’t move.
“Papa!” she yelled. “Daddy!”
Their eyes moved towards hers, but they made no attempt to get to safety. What were they thinking? Why weren’t they moving?
“Move!” she screamed. “Move!”
“They can’t hear you,” Richard said. “They can’t move.”
“Please,” she begged. “You don’t have to do this.”
He pointed the gun towards Papa’s head.
“Oh, but I do,” Richard said.
She watched as he cocked the gun and held it against his head.
“Please,” she cried out. “Papa. You need to move.”
Hedda watched as Richard moved his finger to the trigger. She closed her eyes, not wanting to see what was about to unfold.
“Open your eyes,” Richard yelled. “You have to watch this.”
Her eyes opened automatically, and she sobbed. She didn’t want to watch this.
“Ready?” Richard asked.
She shook her head. “No. Please.”
But he didn’t pay any attention. His finger started to pull on the trigger and, before she knew it, the gun went off.
Hedda sat up, screaming her head off. Everything felt so real. She knew it wasn’t, but that didn’t help her. Papa and Daddy weren’t here to show her that they were okay.
She wrapped an arm around herself and continued to cry. Laying down on her side, her whole body shook as her sobs took over.
This wasn’t the first time Richard had gone to her dreams again. She thought she was getting better since she wasn’t having them as much, but they just intensified since she got to New York.
This also wasn’t the first time Oliver and Leo, her Papa and Daddy, were in her dreams. They seemed to be getting more vivid and real as the time went on. Hedda didn’t have anything to comfort her either. Lila wasn’t with her. She was back with Papa and Daddy in Missouri.
Hedda screwed her eyes shut and let out a sob. She just wanted to be back with her Daddy and Papa. She had begged Rogan several times to let her go back to them. Each time he told her no and he was closer to finding her a suitable husband.
She wasn’t proud of it, but she had thought about killing herself to get out of it. If she couldn’t be with Papa and Daddy, then why should she continue on.
But she stopped herself. Daddy and Papa wouldn’t want that for her. They would want her to continue on and live her life. She did want to live her life, but she wanted to live it with them. She didn’t want to be apart from them any longer.
Hedda terribly missed both of them. She had spent hours and hours crying in her room.
The door opened and Rogan walked into the room.
