“Hello.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
LEO
They had ordered right after Hedda left to go to the bathroom. Something didn’t sit well with Leo when she said she wanted to go by herself. Was she okay?
Leo didn’t think she was trying to leave them.
But something was definitely up.
“Do you think we should go check on her?” Leo asked as he looked over towards the bathroom.
“Not yet,” Oliver replied. “She still has a minute before I go check on her.”
It didn’t ease his worries at all. She should be back by now. It’s never taken her this long to just pee.
Leo’s eyes never went off of the bathroom door. He just had a gut feeling that something wasn’t right. He had this feeling all morning long, like something wasn’t quite right.
“I don’t know,” Leo whispered. “Maybe I’m just being paranoid but something doesn’t feel right.”
Leo briefly looked over at Oliver as hewas looking at his watch.
“I’m going,” he said as he stood up.
“She’s out of time anyways,” Oliver said.
He looked over at the front counter and saw Charlotte peeking out of the kitchen. Leo was surprised when she was behind the counter this morning. Normally she was in the kitchen and barely came out.
“Charlotte,” Leo said. “Can you put our stuff in a to go box for us?”
“Sure,” she replied.
Both of them started to walk towards the bathroom. He hoped that everything was okay and she just needed a little extra time in the bathroom.
Leo stands next to the door and knocks on it. He wanted to be polite in case another worker was in there or Hedda needed a little more time.
But there was no sound.
That was odd.
Oliver pushed the door open and Leo followed after. Leo walked over towards one of the two stalls and looked in.
Empty.
“This one is empty,” Oliver said.
Leo didn’t like that at all. The bathroom was completely empty. Where could she have gone?
He looked over towards the side and saw the window. It was about Hedda’s height but it didn’t look like it had been opened.
She wouldn’t have left, would she? She seemed so happy the past couple of days.
“Let’s check the boys bathroom,” Oliver said.
Maybe she was playing hide and seek with them. Or maybe she was pulling a prank on them.
That was what he hoped was happening.
