"Try her again," Oliver said.
Leo called Hedda again, hoping she would pick up this time. They had set the phone on ringer so she could hear it from anywhere in the house. Why wasn't she picking up?
"Voicemail," Leo said.
Oliver growled as they pulled up to the driveway. Their house didn't look like it had been broken into. Could Rogan have gotten past their security? Leo knew he had a tech guy with him, but he didn't know how good he was.
Both of them got out of the car and drew their guns. Everywhere they went, they always had their guns. They wanted to be safe and right now Leo was glad they had brought their guns.
"I'll unlock it," Leo said. "You head in first."
Oliver nodded as they made their way up to the front door. Leo scanned his fingerand put the code in.
"Ready?" he whispered and Oliver nodded his head.
He opened the door and Oliver walked in, gun raised. The lights were on as Leo walked behind him, his gun raised. Nothing looked like it was out of place.
Both of them slowly made their way around the bottom floor before looking at each other and pointing towards the upstairs. Nobody was downstairs and everything was untouched.
Leo walked up the stairs first before he made his way towards her room. He hoped she was in her room, asleep or deep in Middle space that she didn't hear the phone.
But he was wrong.
Her phone was still on the nightstand where she had placed it before they left. No one was in the room.
"Shit," he muttered.
They carefully made their way out of her room and looked down the hallway. Oliver stilled and Leo looked over to where he was looking.
The last door was opened slightly.
It was the room they planned on sleeping in once they found their Middle. Was she in there? They hadn't told her what the room was but they also didn't tell her it was off limits. Because it wasn't.
Oliver slowly started to walk towards it, gun raised. He hoped she was in the room, exploring or something. Leo didn't know what he would do if she wasn't in the house.
Oliver looked back at him and he gave him a small nod. He was ready. They slowly entered the empty room, their eyes narrowing on the bed. They hadn't had the time orenergy to fill the room with anything. They wanted their girl to have an input in what went in there.
His eyes zeroed in on the little lump on the bed. Hedda's head was peeking out from under the covers and she was sleeping.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
OLIVER
Oliver continued to stare at Hedda sleeping in their bed. It was a sight to see and he wanted to always look at it.
When she didn't pick up her phone twice, he started to get worried. Rogan had just threatened them and they hadn't been with Hedda. He knew that if Rogan had taken her, Leo and he would've done whatever they could to get her back.
Hedda was theirs and they were hers.
Oliver quietly walked over towards the bed, wanting to get a better look at her. She looked so calm and peaceful while she slept and hugged Lila. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and took a picture of her. He wanted to always remember this moment, even if there were more to come. It was precious.
He took one last look at her before he softly walked back to Leo and pointed towards the door. They had things to talk about and Hedda needed her rest right now. He didn't wantto take a chance and wake her up, not when she desperately needed to sleep.
Michael had mentioned before they took Hedda that she was taking caffeine pills to keep herself awake. Clever, but they'd placed all the pills in the house in the safe so she couldn't get to them. Taking caffeine pills would only work for so long until she took too many and could die.
Oliver didn't want it to come to that. He had seen people get addicted to whatever pill they took that would help for a little time. She would need to up her dosage to get the desired effect of staying awake and probably wouldn't realize that she would be close to overdosing.
It wasn't going to happen on his watch. She was too precious to them and he would do anything to help her get better.
