She knew she would be. Puking in front of people is something she wanted to avoid.
“Come here, Princess,” Daddy said as he opened the door.
He had his arms opened and she turned, wrapping her arms around his torso. She melted into his embrace as his heat and scent surrounded her.
“You’re going to be okay,” Daddy whispered. “We’re both going to keep an eye out and nothing is going to happen. You won’t leave our sights.”
Hedda felt a little bit better about that. She knew he meant what he said and would make good on it.
“Are you ready to go out now?” he gently asked.
She shook her head but sighed and let go of him. They were going to have to go at some point. Why wait any longer when she knew she wouldn’t be ready at all?
“I’m proud of you,” Papa said as she got out of the car.
They grabbed her hands and they started to walk down the sidewalk. She felt better having physical contact with them, but at the same time she was nervous for a different reason.
Would people be okay with her holding their hands? With her being with them?
Hedda knew it wasn’t normal to be with two guys. Would they get bullied for it? Would rumors go around? Would they have to leave?
There were so many unanswered questions and she wanted to go hide at home for new reasons now.
“No one is going to judge us or make any comments,” Papa said. “It might be a small town, but a lot of us have the same thinking.”
“Sure, there might be a couple people who think it’s weird or disapprove, but they won’t say anything,” Daddy said. “They know it’s none of their business.”
It helped her relax some, but she was still nervous. Just because they didn’t think people would do it, or it wasn't any of their business, didn’t mean people couldn’t.
“Charlotte is working today, and I know she’s really excited about meeting you,” Papa said.
They turned the corner and there Heavenly Baked stood. Hedda gripped onto their hands as they got closer. She didn’t know if she was ready to meet Charlotte yet. She seemed like a nice person when the twins and Monroe would talk about her.
Before she could pull at their hands, Daddy opened the door and Papa stepped in, bringing her in with him.
Deliciousness was the first thing she smelled as they walked into the bakery.
Everything smelled so good. There were so many different scents in the store.
“Welcome to Heav,” Charlotte squealed at the end when she turned around. “Leo, Oliver! And you must be Hedda!”
A big grin spread across Charlotte’s face as she stared at Hedda.
“Hi,” she whispered shyly.
Hedda so badly wanted to hide behind Papa or Daddy, but with them holding her hands she couldn’t. Maybe they had done that purposefully so she couldn’t.
“I’m sooooo excited to finally meet you!” Charlotte said. “All the other Littles are going to be so jealous that I met you first! Oh man, I can’t wait to tell them. Maybe we can take a picture and I can send it in the groupchat. Oooo, I also need to add you to that! Then we all can have a playdate and hang out!”
Hedda blinked several seconds, trying to wrap her brain around everything Charlotte just said. She had talked about other Littles. Did Charlotte not know she wasn’t a Little?
She went to open her mouth and tell her, but Papa beat her to it.
“Charlotte,” Papa said. “I know you mean well and I know Hedda can’t wait to meet them either. She isn’t a Little, though, she’s a Middle, I think you guys could have some sleepovers since she doesn’t really regress that Little.”
The smile across Charlotte’s face never broke and Hedda wondered if it was permanent. Did she ever not smile?
“That doesn’t matter! We still want to hang out with youand become friends,” Charlotte said. “I know we’re going to be great friends! We can hang out and have sleepovers!”
