“Pink!” Janie enthusiastically said. “I love any shade of pink! What about you?”

Charlotte thought about it for a second. She liked red, but it wasn’t her favorite color.

“I really like baby blue. I guess with my hair being red and Christmas being blue and red, and green in there, it just became my favorite color,” Charlotte explained. “I love Christmas! It’s the best time of the year.”

Janie nodded her head, but Charlotte could tell Christmas wasn’t her favorite time of the year, and that was okay. Charlotte knew that not everyone liked Christmas. Some people were sad around that time because they didn’t have any family, but it didn’t mean she couldn’t love it any less.

“My favorite holiday has to be Easter.” Janie perked up. “I love hunting for the plastic eggs and getting little presents!”

Charlotte agreed with her. Easter was a good holiday, and she couldn’t wait for Easter to come around. It was a good holiday, and all the colors made it so pretty.

They went back to coloring their pictures. Charlotte was glad she met Janie and they became friends. She hoped they could stay friends for a long time. Maybe they could even have playdates later on.

That would be so much fun! Right as Charlotte was going to ask Janie, she spoke.

“Do you have a Daddy here?” Janie asked as she looked at Charlotte.

Charlotte shrugged her shoulders. “It’s complicated.”

Janie sat up straight and stopped coloring. “Tell me.”

She wanted to open her mouth and tell Janie all about it but didn’t know if Finn would like that. Charlotte looked over at Finn, who was talking to a man she didn’t recognize, but he was looking at her.

Finn waved his hand and gave her a smile.

“That’s your Daddy? Finn?” Janie asked.

“Well, promise you won’t tell anyone?” Charlotte looked at Janie.

She hadn’t been able to talk to anyone about this besides her stuffie. She didn’t feel comfortable talking to Diana, James, or Amelia about this, and Charlie wanted to talk to someone about it.

“I promise!” Janie raised her voice in excitement.

Charlotte took a deep breath. “I met him over a week ago here at the club. He came up to me and wanted to color while I did. We got to know each other, and we’ve talked about him being my Daddy, but nothing has happened.”

“Well, what’s wrong?”

Charlotte felt silly saying this. “He’ll be my first Daddy, and I’m nervous. What if I make so many mistakes and he doesn’t want me anymore?”

Arms wrapped around her, and Charlotte found herself laid out across the ground.

“Be yourself! He’ll love you for you and no one else,” Janie said, her arms still wrapped around her.

Charlotte nodded her head because that was what she had told herself several times but psyched herself out and told herself that she needed to be perfect.

Janie didn’t let go of Charlotte, so she wrapped her arms around her, and they hugged. She’d never had another little give her a hug out of the blue, and she kind of liked it. It was unexpected, but it was nice.

“Charlie?” Finn’s voice rang out. “Are you okay?”

Janie got off of Charlotte, and they both turned toward him, but he wasn’t alone. Standing with him was an unknown man and Mac. Charlotte saw Janie’s face turn red as she looked down at her lap.

Mac was intensely staring at Janie. Could something be going on between both of them? Was that her Daddy?

Charlotte leaned closer to Janie and whispered, “Mac is looking at you. Is he your Daddy?”

Janie’s eyes went wide, and she shook her head. Charlotte looked between both of them and knew something was going on. Did Janie know that something was going on?

“Charlie?” Finn called out her name again.
