CHAPTER TEN

CHARLOTTE

So many emotions went through Charlotte as Finn spoke. He wanted her to respond to him, even if it was hours after he sent the text because she was working. Not a lot of people had told her that.

Charlotte especially couldn’t do that when she was the main baker, the only baker. It had been tough on Charlotte when she got to know a lot of different guys only to have to tell them it wasn’t going to work out because they expected a response immediately.

Granted a lot of the guys that she was getting to know all wanted her to be a stay-at-home wife. Charlotte wouldn't mind being a stay at home wife, if it was her choice, but the guys wanted to force it on her, and right now, Charlotte wanted to work at the bakery.

She loved working there so much. It gave her purpose in life right now. Though, she had to work right now because she desperately needed money. She was already struggling for money, and she was working forty hours a week.

Something needed to change, but Charlotte didn't know what. She had never been good at money or tracking where she bought things. Charlotte had been trying really hard the past month to track and make sure she was only buying things she absolutely needed.

But somehow she still didn’t have enough money. Charlotte got rid of her membership at the club, she only bought a couple of staple food items each week, she didn't buy anything for her little side—except for the shopping—, and she tried to walk to work when she could. Well, when Diana couldn't take her.

But even when she did all that, she still didn't have enough money. It seemed like her electric bill was going up and her water bill was skyrocketing, but she took quick showers so that she didn't use a lot, and she didn't leave a light on for too long.

Well, she had a night-light that she used every night because she was afraid of the dark, but the guy at the store said it wouldn't take up a lot of electricity.

Charlotte had thought about asking Diana to look over her bank account with all her receipts that she had kept and see where it was going. But Charlotte didn't want Diana to worry about her, and she didn't want Diana to take pity on her and give her money.

That was the last thing Charlotte wanted.

Now she was here sitting in front of Finn. He was talking to her, trying to make sense of why she didn't respond. Then he said that he expected a reply, and that didn't sit well with her.

Was it going to be like every other guy she had talked to? Wanting a response right away.

It was like he knew what she was thinking because then he talked about how it didn't need to be right away because he knew she worked. Charlotte didn't know what to believe.

Finn sounded genuine when he said those words, but she knew better. So many times guys had said the exact same thing, but they did want a response right away.

Maybe Charlotte was better off without a Daddy or significant other. Recently, Charlotte had even thought about having a vanilla guy to try and find a potential significant other, but it still wasn't working.

They all wanted her to respond right away. In the beginning, she tried to respond right away, but when Charlotte fell into little space, she wasn't on her phone. That was the last thing on her mind, and none of the vanilla guys could understand that. They didn't know that she was a little.

Maybe Finn was different. Maybe he truly didn't mind that she worked and wouldn't be able to respond right away. Charlotte didn't know, and she didn't know how to ask or make sure that he really meant what he said.

She didn't want to sound rude or doubtful, but she was doubtful. She had so many men tell her one thing but then get mad when they said that it was okay. Charlotte wasn't about that, and she didn't want it to happen again.

“What are you thinking? Give me all your unfiltered thoughts,” Finn said.

Charlotte stared at Finn in shock. She had so many things to say, and she didn't know where to start. She wanted to tell him her doubts and her concerns, but she didn't want to scare him off.

One time a guy had told her to tell him what she was thinking, and when she did, he didn't like it. Charlotte was being honest, and he didn't want that. He wanted to hear what he wanted to hear, and she said the opposite.

“I promise I really want your unfiltered thoughts so that I can follow along on what you're thinking. It won't hurt my feelings if you say something,” Finn said, bringing Charlotte out of her thoughts.

It was like he knew exactly what to say to her at the right time. Almost like he could read her thoughts.

Charlotte's eyes went wide at that thought, and she looked up at Finn.

“Can you read my thoughts?” she whispered, waiting for his answer.

What if he could?

Finn chuckled and shook his head. “I can't read your thoughts.”

Her shoulders sagged in relief, and she let out the breath she was holding. That was a relief, Charlotte thought to herself. She didn't know what she was going to do if he could read her thoughts.
