“Hm…” Her face turned a little again. She opened and closed her mouth before any sound came out.
“Face the front, Mads. Walter can’t do without your eyes on him.”
She huffed. Maddie turned her head back to the lecture, but I was too far gone. My eyes were trained on the little hairs taunting me.
“Maddie?” My mouth almost touched her neck.
I saw the shiver spread through her body. I tried to contain my smile.
“Hm?”
“Do you have a pencil on you, by any chance?”
She didn’t reply, but quickly opened her bag and took a pencil. She passed to me without looking.
I was probably going to hell for torturing us both, but I couldn’t resist. Slowly, I took the pencil and twirled it around, capturing a single curl at the nape. The movement itself was enough to arch her back, just a little, but I saw it. Happy for getting the reaction I wanted, I moved the pencil around on its tip, like I was drawing on her.
Calm, breathing too close to her skin, I observed the subtle changes in her, the way her whole body seemed to respond to me.
“Take your notes, cariño.” I taunted when she seemed to have forgotten about the class.
She gasped, arms full of goosebumps. I looked to our side. Aisha seemed to be engrossed in her own notes, not paying us any attention, so I kept going.
I twirled the pencil around, faintly, barely touching her. I never went too far, but I tortured her for a full hour.
“I have long nails, Z,” she said so low that for a second I thought I misunderstood. She turned her head enough to look at me. “You’ll pay tonight.”
Tonight.
Thank fuck.
When class was dismissed, I thought we were going to wait around for Aisha. I was mistaken. Maddie’s little fingers wrapped around my wrist and dragged me through the halls, leaving her friend behind.
“Hey, hey…” I tried to shake her off, but my heart wasn’t really in it.
“Hey, yourself.” It was her only reply.
If people thought it was odd that Maddie was dragging me around, they hid it well. She marched in front of me, nose upright, using all her strength to keep me in step with her.
I laughed and let her have her way. When we got to my car, Maddie pointed to the driver’s seat. “In, now.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I nodded.
I tried a sheepish grin, but Madid didn’t fall for it. She narrowed her eyes and got into the car, banging the door close. Once I sat down beside her, she started. “What the hell, Z!”
She flicked my head with her finger. I laughed, and I tried to escape, and she did it again.
“What? Great class right?” I asked while evading her attempts.
“Oh my god, how dare you to do that during a class?” She tried to come for me again, but I was quick and took her hands in mine, stopping them mid-air.
“What?”
If looks could kill, I’d be a dead man. “Don’t be so angry. I really wanted to touch you and I couldn’t in class.”
Maddie worked in a swallow. “You’re not allowed to do that during class.” She didn’t sound certain anymore.
“I see.” I tilted my head to the side. “I didn’t know the rules, I’m sorry.”
