“Okay, good, because I don’t think he’s leaving your side. You have a concussion, a broken hand and thumb, a fractured wrist, and I’m sure you know already that one eye is swollen shut. We checked to make sure there were no fractures to your face or damage to your eyesight. Everything looked clean, but we will know more when the swelling goes down and you can let us know. We are keeping you here overnight due to the concussion for observation. As long as you are okay, we will release you tomorrow. We will put the cast on you shortly.” Dr. Fox tells me.

“How long will I be in a cast?” I ask.

“Six to eight weeks. You will have to follow up with an ortho in four weeks.” She informs me.

“I can do that. Thank you.” I reply.

“I’m going to get out of your hair. Mr. Evans, when you hear a nurse coming and it’s after 11pm, hide in the bathroom. I didn’t tell you that, okay?” She says with a chuckle and a wink before she leaves.

“Do you need anything?” he asks.

“I’m okay now Co.” I tell him.

“I thought I lost you. When Heather called me asking if you were with me, I felt so lost.” he tells me.

“I’m sorry I went alone to the stadium. Honestly, I thought nothing would happen there.” I say.

“Baby, no. There isn’t a reason why you should be sorry. You were working. That fucking asshole is in the wrong.” He says.

“I know, but I still feel bad for going by myself.” I respond.

He shakes his head at me. I know what he’s trying to say, but I do still feel bad.

“The police need to take a statement from you. Do you want to wait till tomorrow or do it now?” he give me the option.

“Can I just do it now? I want to do it now to get it over with, so we won’t be bothered when we go home.” I ask.

He nods his head and pulls his cell phone out.

“I’m going to go right outside your room to call the officer, okay?”

“Okay.”

Cole leaves and comes back within two minutes.

“They will be here in a minute. They were in the lobby.” he lets me know.

I give him a small smile.

I’m not looking forward to this. I know Cole will want to be here and I need him with me, too, but I’m also worried about him. Shit, he’s also going to be so upset I didn’t tell him about Dylan asking me to the gala.

A knock on the door pulls me out of my thoughts.

“Adriana, I’m officer Rowe and this is Officer Collins. Mr. Evans.”

“Hello.” I greet.

“Can you tell us what happened to you today?” Officer Collins asks.

I tell them about how I went to the stadium and then what I remember from the first time I woke up until now. Cole is holding my good hand while his other is literally sinking into his own thigh.

I knew this was going to hurt him.

“Did you have many interactions with Mr. Crawford before? He stated you turned him down.” Officer Rowe inquires.

“Not too many, honestly. I met him at Cole’s house for like ten minutes. Then I saw him at the stadium when we would be there. There was karaoke with the team and the other day before the gala we had a mini event and he saw me go towards the maintenance closet. He helped me carry gloves for people to use to play catch. That’s when he asked me to be his date at the gala event.” I inform them.

“What?” comes from Cole.
