Chapter Six

Ishould have told her I was going to close the house down. I hated seeing that look of fear on her face. No, I’d much rather see her smile or in the throes of passion. When I’ve done what I needed to do, I come back to bed with her bottle of water, placing it on her nightstand since it looks like she’s fallen asleep.

I unzip my jeans and pull them off before getting back into bed. Lifting the covers, I lay down beside her and pull her close so that her back is against my chest.

“I’m sorry,” I murmur, kissing her behind her ear.

She rolls over to look at me. “There’s nothing to be sorry for,” She says.

“Then why were you upset?”

“Everything just kind of happened really fast,” she says.

“Do you regret it?” I ask, wondering if I pushed her for too much too soon.

She shakes her head and smiles. “Hell no. I guess I freaked out because I thought you were leaving. I’ve never done this before. What is the protocol? Do you leave after or spend the night? So that I know for next time.”

“I have no idea what the protocol is since the last time I touched someone was before I met you.”

“Really?”

I laugh. “Why do you sound so shocked? I told you it’s always been you, and I meant it. I never wanted anyone else when I knew the only woman I needed was you.”

“Wow, it’s just you’re gorgeous, Alex. I didn’t want to assume.”

“I could say the same thing about you, Zoe.”

“I guess you’re right.”

“I’ve had sex once, when I was seventeen. We weren’t even together. I wish I had waited and saved my first time for you.”

“So this is a first for both of us. Where do you live then? I didn’t see any of your things here.”

“I’ve been staying in a rental house while this was being built. Once it was finished, I didn’t want to move in and assume you were ready for that step. One day soon, I hope to move in and turn this house into a home and create that family you want.”

“Well, that could be happening sooner rather than later,” She giggles. “We didn’t use a condom, and I’m not on birth control.”

“Good. There’s nothing that would make me happier.”

“Then it’s settled, you’re moving in.”

“Zoe, there’s no pressure. Take as long as you want to decide. But you need to know, once I move in, I’m not leaving. I’ll never leave you.”

“Good because I love you, Alex. So very much.”

“I love you too, my sweet Zoe girl,” I say before kissing her deeply.
