“So, does this mean that you are going to play for the college’s hockey team?” Aunt Maggie asked taking a seat beside me.
I shook my head, looking at my team. “I already have my team and next year we are competing for the Olympics.” They of course agreed by raising their glasses and cheering.
“Will there still be time to compete?” Meredith asked.
Hockey season is usually at the beginning of each year when I will be on break. “Yep, everything is working out perfectly,” I noted.
“They even tried to convince her to join their college team,” Clarissa said joining us at the table.
“More like forced her, telling her it’s not an option to be part of a hockey club,” Megan said.
Aunt Maggie gave me a questioning look. “How did you get out of it?” She asked.
I looked at my dad and smiled. “I have a lawyer as a father.” My dad was at least there to tell the university that they are not allowed to force me into anything and that there are no rules of having to play for their team.
“Your mom would be proud of you,” Aunt Maggie said resting her hand on top of mine.
“She would be proud of all of us,” I remarked.
Aunt Maggie was finally in a relationship with someone who cares about her and she is convinced to make it work. Dad finally got off his high horse and helped the girl who has my inmate who was charged with manslaughter. Through his own investigation, he found evidence that helped with her case and got the judge to rule out her case as self-defense.
I got over my stubborn mind and found myself falling in love with someone I was planning on not letting go of any time soon.
“Hey, Jonah wants me and Travis to take him for ice cream,” Brandon said coming over.
I shot him an amused grin. “I just think he wants to spend some time alone with you since you’ve spent most of your time with me.”
I was aware of Jonah’s tantrums about Brandon always coming over to spend time with me and not with him, and he him not being used to Brandon being my boyfriend.
I recognized the look on Brandon’s face when he leaned in to kiss me goodbye. “I’ll make sure to take him to the arcade for a while.”
I didn’t protest because that’s exactly what Jonah needs.
“Don’t worry about coming back for me, I have keys to my father’s car.” I joked holding up the car keys and watching a smile spreading across his face.
“Drive safe and I’ll see you later on back at home,” I nodded and then watched him leave with Travis and Jonah.
CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO
“Things seem to be going well between you and Brandon,” Clarissa noted coming over to help me clear the tables after everyone left.
I nodded. “Too well and I don’t know why I am afraid—afraid our spark is going to run out because at times things feel so natural that it almost feels scripted.”
“I kind of expected him to bolt after the challenge faded when we kissed and he got his prize.” I love Brandon too much to do anything that will jeopardize our happiness.
“Brandon will never fall out of love with you,” She assured me.
“A person can never be sure,” Camille wasn’t kidding when she said that there is no manual to a successful relationship.
“Sasha,” Clarissa gave a frustrated sigh followed by a pointed stare.
“Stop doubting life when it starts looking up or expect something bad to happen. You are safe hands and Brandon is truly a great guy,”
I blinked…wait…was she still in love with Brandon?
“Do you still have feelings for him?” I asked feeling kind of insecure and worried that my relationship with Brandon will start making things awkward for me and Clarissa, and soon our whole team.
“Oh gosh, no! Brandon is all yours and I bat for the opposite team.” She said with a giggle when she realized I was starting to grow some concern, but her giggle dissolved when she saw my confusion.
