“Lorvian!” The sound of his voice led me to him, but I stopped once I saw the large leather-looking thing wing wrapped around his body. The end of the wing looked like sharp claws. What the heck was that?!
“Caspian! Stay back!” Lorvian ordered, and before I knew it, a burst of light lit up the room, and Lorvian dropped to the ground.
“Bastard!” Came that deep, monstrous voice, but this time, it wasn’t over the static of the comms.
The giant creature stepped into the light, and I stared wide-eyed at what I could only call a goddamned Dragon!
“It would seem as if you humans are more trouble than you’re worth!” His every footstep rattled the room. “Prince, you were a fool to turn me down. You will see firsthand what it means to make an enemy of me!”
Something was coming for me so fast that I only just registered it was happening. Lorvian dove for me, pushing me back, and I saw it: a marble slab that would have killed me if it hit. Connor had dove for the other side and was dusting himself off.
Lorvian grabbed me and took me to a set of benches behind a stone divider. “Stay here!” he said, handing me his weapon. “The first trigger is a charger, and the second is for firing.”
At this point, I think I was on my way to becoming a one-man army.
Lorvian jumped across the divider and charged at the beastly… alien…??
To help, I fired on the large, scaly creature, which annoyed him while Lorvian did the dirty work. Each time a round hit him, it distracted him so Lorvian could take advantage, which was enough for me.
However, we weren’t making any headway. When he tried to come my way, Lorvian jumped in front, pushing at his massive chest to keep him at bay until he focused on him again. I ducked, moved, and crawled across the cold, wet floor until I hit a small pool of running water. This pool was like a small river that ran around the entire room.
Connor crawled over, and I found it funny that he was in hiding. “Shoot the equipment.” He whispered, pointing at the consoles ahead. The entire area ahead looked like a massive high-tech office, probably where this alien conducted his business. “I will reroute the exposed wiring.” He said, leaving my side.
I aimed and fired, blasting the equipment to bits and spraying sparks. I think I knew what he wanted, so I moved as far away from the water as possible.
“Lorvian!” I yelled once Connor gave me the heads up. “Get him in the water!”
Lorvian delivered a few punches before pushing him back and climbing on top; I fired another round as Lorvian ran him toward the pool, rolling on the ground as he did.
The bluish light flashed like a rave party, and the creature hollered in pain.
“Let’s get out of here!” Lorvian grabbed my hand, and we ran as fast as we could out of the room and down the hall, with Connor following behind. “Human!” He yelled into the small comm system on his arm. “Get to the mid-airlock, now!”
We reached the airlock, and he opened the shaft and sealed us inside. He walked up front and opened the other to check outside.
“I’m on my way!” I heard the familiar voice on the other end. “Thank god for that other ship that came along.”
“Is that you, Cormac?!” I said, half pissed.
“Yeah!”
“How?”
“Your alien boyfriend told me to come, glad he did cause I now got even more of a hang of these ships!”
“Just get to the airlock. I’m sending a nav point,” Lorvian grumbled.
We entered the ship, and I was all too happy to rip the mask off my face, leaving reddish welts on my skin. I felt a gentle caress on my cheek and I looked up at his handsome face and smiled, I wanted to kiss him but didn’t make the move. He was too damn tall. He leaned in and pressed his lips against mine, which were strong as usual.
“I believe you lost something.” He said, holding up the jewel before placing it around my neck. It was cracked and a little worse for wear, but it was still a sight for sore eyes. He and I were together again, and he returned the jewel to me. It all felt so right. Was I falling in love?
He turned away and headed to the bridge of the much smaller ship.
“Elvira, do you read me?” He said into the comms but received no reply. “She’s gone.”
“She seemed so hurt and desperate,” I said in the Valisian woman’s defense. “She didn’t hurt me nor mistreat me.”
“I’m glad.” He kissed my forehead and then my cheeks.
