“Yes. No more sneaking around denying it. We’re out of the closet.”

“But we haven’t even tried the closet yet.”

“Be serious for one second, Nickels.”

I pulled myself up for the kiss that would provide the answer, and his lips met mine with the determination I wanted, that I needed. I’d needed him in my life.

His hands roamed my body and pulled at my ass.

I jumped up and wrapped my legs around him as I tugged his hair and clawed his back. The kiss was like that first one against the refrigerator. As we traded breath and moans and our tongues danced, the room fell away. I was wrapped around my man, transported to cloud nine, where the blood rushing in my ears drowned out the world, and the energy from our contact was all I craved.

He repositioned his grip to hold me up and broke the kiss. “I love you, Nickels.”

This time I could say it back. “I love you too.”

“Is that a yes?”

I did my best leg clamp on him. “Yes.”

“Second question,” Josh began. “Would you take over Rossi’s for me?”

I yelped for joy. “Do you even have to ask? I thought you were going to put Wenzel—”

“Stop jumping to conclusions, Nickels.”

“Wait a minute. We haven’t discussed compensation yet.”

He gently let me down, after I released my leg death grip.

Now I had to look up to him. I’d been at face level before—a better negotiating position.

He took my hand and led me back to the table. “I’m sure we can come to something mutually agreeable later. But first we have to go introduce the new boss.”

I looked at the dirty jeans and work boots I had on. “I have to go home and change.”

“They won’t care.”

“But I will.”

“Okay, but hurry back. I’ll be looking for a closet.”

I climbedinto Winston’s SUV. “Home, James.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He pulled into traffic.

I still tingled from the excitement. Being able to run Rossi’sandhave Josh was a double win. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

“How much did you know about this?”

Winston smirked. “Not the particulars. Just that I had to get you there. I take it lunch went well?”

I couldn’t contain my glee. “Swimmingly.” I’d always wanted to use that word but had never found the right time. Fondling my phone, I considered calling Josh to tell him again that I loved him, but I felt awkward in front of Winston.

Josh had said it so many times since I’d broken things off. With each utterance, I’d wanted to return the words, but couldn’t bring myself to. Now I was eager to even the score.
