“By who?” A muscle ticked on his jaw. He narrowed his eyes on her as he waited for her response.

Suddenly, Kimora had the feeling that he was unaware of what was going on. Kane was a wonderful surgeon who was passionate about what he did. It just didn’t make sense that he would keep an opportunity that could help save patients in the future.

“Your secretary.”

“Don’t worry, Kimora. It will all be taken care of.” He leaned forward and rested his forearms on the table.

Kimora’s breath caught in her throat. She jerked her head in a nod. The glint in his eyes gave away that he would get to the bottom of this issue. Now if only she would have been able tohave this conversation with him earlier. This all could have been settled and worked out.

“So you weren’t trying to sabotage my study?”

“Absolutely not. I’m hoping you are able to achieve everything that you are hoping for. Just think of all of the patients you would help. That is the ultimate goal, is it not?”

Kimora jerked her head in another nod. She couldn’t believe what was happening. If only she had found a way to speak with him earlier. It wasn’t him, but his secretary? Why would she want to block Kimora’s research? Kane stood from his chair and came to stand next to her. He held out his hand to her. She glanced down at it before sliding hers into his.

“Now that I have assured you of one thing, it’s time for me to assure you of one other thing.”

She stood from the table and allowed him to lead her over to the dance floor. He swung her around in the center of the dancers and pulled her close to him. She rested her free hand along his shoulders and gazed up at him.

“And what is that?” she breathed.

Tonight was going much better than she ever could have hoped for. She wasn’t going to think of the research or patients at the moment. She was in the arms of one of the sexiest men she had ever seen. His smoldering eyes connected with hers, and the heat that flared in them took her breath away. She leaned into him, her body swaying with his. Everything around them seemed to fade away. Kimora only focused on Kane. He leaned down, his lips coming to rest next to her ear.

“There won’t be a single part of your body that I won’t taste tonight.”

Chapter Five

Kane entwined his fingers with Kimora’s and led her into his home. They had shared one dance at the steak house before he’d paid for their meal and swept Kimora out of the restaurant.

He had made a mental note to speak with Angela, his secretary, first thing on Monday morning. He wouldn’t stand for someone making a decision for his patients that went against everything he held near and dear. He loved being a surgeon, but if his patients could access treatments that could cure their ailments without surgery, then he was all for it. Kimora’s research was needed. It may not help his current patients, but it could definitely be of aid in the future.

“This is a beautiful home,” Kimora murmured. She leaned against his arm and tightened her fingers arounds his. The tap of her heels echoed along the marble floor of his foyer. He was proud of his home but had secretly been wanting to have someone share it with him.

Lizzie dropping by all the time didn’t count.

Kane had started to have the desire to want to find a partner to share the rest of his life with. He had plenty of friends who had found their significant others when they were in medical school. He smirked thinking of the women he had dated then. None of them would be able to hold a candle to the woman strolling beside him. Lately, he found himself watching his colleagues and friends with their families, and it made him realized that he had been so focused on his career that he had missed an integral part of life.

Lizzie was right. The women he’d dated weren’t wife material. He had never even looked at them as such. He only wanted to indulge in a good time and what they had to offer. He couldn’t think of one who he could even see himself with in the future.

“Do you want a tour?” He drew them to the base of the stairs that led to the second floor. His home was a little over eight thousand square feet. He wasn’t sure what possessed him to purchase such a home, but the moment he had walked through it, he had known it was the one for him.

A sassy grin spread along Kimora’s lips. She kicked her heels off then moved up on to the bottom stair. It put her eye level with him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and shook her head.

He stared into her eyes, and something blossomed inside his chest. This woman before him deserved a man’s last name. She was a woman any man would be proud to have on his arm. She was highly intelligent, beautiful, and was interested in him as a person. Their conversation at the restaurant had been intriguing. It had led him to want to see her again. That damn app had made the perfect match.

“There’s only one room I want to see right now, Dr. Livingston,” she breathed. She leaned forward and pressed her lips to his.

He immediately shook his sports jacket off. He didn’t care that it fell to the floor. He reached for Kimora and swung her up into his arms.

“Dr. Tucker, I know just the room.” He took the stairs in record time.

Her soft giggles fueled a deep desire for her. Kane held her tight as he walked down the hall toward his bedroom. Her curves felt right in his arms. Kimora tightened her hold on him. He arrived at his private master suite and nudged the door open with his foot.

He walked through the door and kicked it shut. He had left one of the lamps on at the bedside. The gentle glow illuminated the room in a soft hue. He stalked over to the king-sized bed and placed Kimora gently on it. She moved to the edge and held his gaze.

“Are you a mind reader?” she joked. She stood in front of him and leaned up on her tiptoes.

“I was able to make an educated guess on what you were thinking.” Kane didn’t waste any time swooping down and capturing her lips with his.
