“More, Max. I need more.” I reached back and dug my nails into his ass, making him thrust harder.
“Yes, yes,” I cried, my voice unrecognizable as it squeaked against my forearm. I bent over, resting my head in my hands before my core clenched around him.
He grunted as wave after wave of bliss smothered me in ecstasy and left me limp against the cold floor. His thrusts hit harder and faster until he pulled away, spraying his hot cum across my ass before I collapsed into a pile of nothingness.
“Fuck,bella.”
I watched him over my shoulder, stroking himself with a sated expression until his gaze flicked up and caught me. A smirk drew across his lips, which had my cheeks burning.
“Don’t move.”
“No worries, I don’t think I could even if I wanted to.”
He chuckled, and grabbed a hand towel from the linen closet behind the door, wet it, and wiped up the evidence of our encounter.
“Such a gentleman.”
He scoffed. “Fucking you on the bathroom floor is anything but gentlemanly.”
I pulled up my jeans with shaky legs and settled them over my hips. “A proper gentleman takes care of his woman.” Buttoning my pants, I placed a tender kiss on his lips. “Love you, big guy.”
Max wrapped his hand around the side of my neck and pulled me in for a deeper kiss—my taste still fragrant on his tongue. “I love you.” He pressed his forehead to mine and sighed. “Promise me you’ll never change.”
A touch of sorrow hitched a ride on his words and landed in my heart, making it cease all function. I studied him, looking for the sadness I’d heard. “Promise,” I whispered. “I promise.”
Before I could latch on to the ardent warmth, Max pulled away from me, then spanked my ass, making me yelp. I grabbed hold of the counter and sucked in air through my nose as I pinched my lips together.
“Are you still in pain?”
I nodded.
“Sorry,bella.”
Plastering a smile on my face, I clasped my bra and composed myself. “You didn’t know. I’ll meet you downstairs, okay.”
“Yep. I need a shower, but I’ll glean what I can when I get there.” He walked around me, discarding the rest of his clothes, then stepped into the shower.
“You’d tell me if there was something wrong, right?”
Max bled sadness into the atmosphere like an inky soup you couldn’t escape. It stuck to your clothes like burrs and tangled in your hair like a wild wind. If he wasn’t willing to share it, I’d put my best skills to use and torture it out of him. Besides, what’s a relationship if you can’t be honest and talk about what’s bothering you?
“Charity—”
“Charity—” Max said, synchronizing with Luca, who hollered from the bedroom door. “You better go, I’ll be there soon.”
My shoulders dropped as he emotionally shut me out. Turning on my heel, I found Luca in the same space he was last night as he watched me with Max.
“I’m coming. I was just finishing up.”
“Hmm.”
I brushed past him and headed for the kitchen, where he had a glass of water and two red tablets beside it, sitting on the counter. “Is this for me?” I pointed to the items with curiosity.
“The doctor said it would help with the pain.”
“Which pain? The pain in my ass or the one in my head?” I giggled, picking up the circular pill and studying it.
“Charity…”
