Although come to think of it, I put a lot of stock on Luca barging through that door with guns blazing. The door in which I sat in front of… Maybe that wasn’t such a well-thought-out plan.
“Don’t want to talk about it?” I dipped my gaze to meet his. “How did they identify him?”
He launched from his seat and left the room, his fists clenched into a white ball of violence. He made this so easy for me.
I smiled as I watched him leave, then flicked my gaze to Kandy, who stood by, then took his seat.
“Is this a case ofbad cop… hooker? I’ve never seen something like this, but I’m positive it won’t work.”
Kandy scowled and tilted her head like a teenage drama queen. “You won’t be able to rile me like you do him.”
I tipped my head back and laughed. “Keep telling yourself that, honey.” I eyed the corridor where he disappeared, then back to her. “Did you tell him the real reason you’re doing this?”
Kandy crossed her long, slender legs and leaned forward. Her blonde hair was mussy from our ‘altercation,’ but she still looked kept together. Like those women who can wake up with a messy bun and look ready for the day. I hated those people.
“And what might that be?”
I clicked my tongue, tsking at her. “Don’t play me for a fool. We both know you want revenge because I get Luca’s thick dick and you don’t.” Her eyes narrowed as she stared me down, making me smirk with success. “Did you know it’s like the size of my forearm? And when he fucks, it’s like God himself has touched you.”
“I’d say that’s a bit of an exaggeration, don’t you?”
I gasped as the familiar voice sent heat waves down my body. “You’re so fucked now and not in the way you fantasized about.”
Kandy jumped from her seat and stumbled backward as footsteps pounded the old wood floors towards us. I released my tension with laughter as she held her hand out in front of her while she tried to explain.
“L-Luca. How… It’s not…” she stumbled back further as I laughed at her fear. “It’s not what it looks like.”
I cranked my neck as far as it would go just to see the look on his face but fell short.
“It’s not?” Luca spoke in a collected tone. One that would have me running for the hills because I knew what would come after. “Why don’t you enlighten me?”
“She’s gonna run,” I said in a sing-song voice as she made it to the hallway.
Before she could turn around and bolt, Owen side-stepped her, his pistol drawn and pointed at me.
A muffled shot rang out, still loud enough to pierce my ears and make them ring but quiet enough to not alert the entire neighborhood to a gunfight.
Owen dropped his pistol and bellowed as he fell against the wall, holding his arm. Blood bloomed on his shoulder like a wildflower staining the checkered dress shirt he wore. Why does he dress like a person from the seventies? And why didn’t I notice the ugly thing now?
Luca walked forward into view, his gun pointed at Owen, who was still within reach of his pistol.
“You used your favorite silencer for me?”
He gave me a quick glance and placed his free hand on my bloody shoulder. “You okay, baby?”
“Right as a sunny day—”
“He made me. He said he’d take me to jail if I didn’t comply.”
I snorted at her lame attempt to delegate the blame to Owen. Did she think Luca would fall for that bullshit?
Kandy held her hands out to the side as she continued to backpedal towards the exit until her butt hit the wall, stopping her from continuing.
“Stop talking, Kandy.”
A large warm hand wrapped around my wrist as cool metal brushed against my skin. I jumped in my seat from the unexpected touch.
“Didn’t feel like we’d enjoy a party, bella?” Max asked, coming to my other side, his gun aimed at Owen, panting as he leaned against the wall.
