Page 114 of Charity's Redemption

I’d never seen Charity ashamed before, especially when it involved murder. Killing was her thing, the thing that motivated her and drove her to get up in the morning like work does for me.

God, what a strange concept.

Charity took Zoe’s hand and wrapped it around the handle of the gun.

What the hell was she doing giving her a loaded weapon? She tried to kill her.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m sorry things ended this way,” Charity said, then aimed it underneath her chin and helped her pull the trigger.

Blood and bits of matter fanned out behind her skull as the bullet exited.

Shock jump started my heart as the gunfire rang my ears anew.

She’d just…

What did I just witness?

Charity rose from Zoe’s side, then moved about the room with fierce concentration.

“Help me,” she said before rushing away towards the dining room and came back with two cloth napkins in her hand.

“With what?”

I still hadn’t moved from the space I’d shot Zoe, but Charity was clear-headed and had a plan.

She pressed the one napkin into her wound on her shoulder, then laid next to Zoe, taking the gun from her hand.

“What are you doing?”

“I need you to pick him up,” she said, pointing to the unconscious man beside me, “and stand him over her the best you can.”

“What?”

“I need the trajectory to look right, just do it okay.”

Taking in a deep breath, I put the guard’s gun down, then picked him up by his arms and dragged him over towards the girl’s dead body.

He weighed heavier than he looked on account to him being a limp noodle, but still, I hoisted him up in place, wrapped my arm around his waist and his arm over my shoulder where I held onto his wrist, reminding me of a time I walked an intoxicated Luca out of the bar the first time he turned twenty-one.

“Close your eyes and look away, don’t move.”

“What are you going to do?” I stood huffing and puffing while Charity laid on the ground, pointing a gun up in my direction but aimed at the man.

“I’m going to kill him.”

I turned my head and closed my eyes, making certain not to catch any debris, just as the gun went off, causing my ears to ring out with a deafening pitch... again.

Charity stood, her lips moving, but the pitch in my ears muffled her words until it died out with her hand waving in my face.

“Are you okay?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“Okay. I said drop him.”

I released the man, letting him crumble to the ground, then walked towards her, careful to avoid the drops of blood all over the room.
