Page 9 of Dreamers Often Lie

“Dreamers often lie,” I said slowly and then burst out laughing.

“Very funny.”

“No, it’s true, Roam.”

“Well, it felt true,” he said so glumly that it almost broke my heart. He was in his feelings badly, and it would take a miracle to get him out of it. Tonight was going to be super annoying if he didn’t rebound quickly. Maybe this party was a bad idea?

“Dreams are not the future, Roam. They are just your fucking brain trying to deal with the emotions that you’re not capable of dealing with when you’re awake. They’re hopes and aspirations of nothing and everything all at once. Have you ever dreamed you could fly? Or dreamed that you were once a king of a faraway land and felt that this dream had to be a vision of the past? A life that you might have once lived? Trust me. You didn’t. This is the life we have, and only you have the power to change it. It is not a dream of love or money, nor is it what might have been if you had made different choices. The only dreams that mattertous are those that the dreamers dreamaboutus. Their dreams line our pockets.”

“Or Monty’s!” Ben groaned loudly.

“All right. Enough, Merc. I get it. You want to cheer me up. You’re just rambling and talking of nothing!” Roam demanded. His biceps bulged as he pouted. He was probably worried about someone taking a photo. Roam always tried to look his hottest after winning his first Grabby.

“True. I’m talking of dreams that are truly nothing more than your stupid, idle brain misfiring into fantasy.” I took his handsome face in my hands and held him in place. “This is real, Roam. Tonight, all of us are going to go sleep with the enemy as we eat their food and drink their booze.”

“Maybe even fuck their men,” Abe cackled and whooped into the night so loud that someone shut their open window.

“Fine. I just feel that there’s… something hanging over me.”

“Let Ross go and embrace what the future might hold. You never know what or who you could meet there tonight. Maybe Ross was just a stepping stone to something better. A bump on the path to someone who won’t care what you are or who you were in your past.” I threw my arm around him And Ben and we took a step.

Roam sighed and then looked at me seriously. “I said fine. Let’s go get cray-cray.”

“Lusty gentleman, or should I say Monty’s whores. Let’s go fuck some shit up!”

The way my Uncle Cappie sees me should embarrass me. The costume he chose for me was… Well, it was not the kind of costume that you bought your nephew. He controlled the lives of every boy in this house – from what we wore to what we ate and even who we could be seen with when we were out in public. If you went against Cappie’s rules, he made you pay, or he threw you out. Cappie was a hard man.

He had lots of rules. The first one was that he was always right. The second one was that the client was also correct, which could sometimes be a problem for our boys who played the role of bottom for the paying customers. As long as they paid and didn’t damage the merchandise, anything could be yours for the right price. Have a rape fantasy that you’ve always wanted to act out? For a solid one thousand dollars, your dreams could all come true. When a client didn’t hold up his end of the bargain or didn’t follow the rules that Cappie gave him, we never saw that person again. Cappie had very bad men in his rolodex, and he wasn’t afraid to call them.

The party was packed with all sorts of Los Angeles ruffians and starlets. Cappie knew how to throw a fucking rager, and everyone who was anyone in the LA area wanted to get an invite. Not everyone did. But tonight, the mansion was packed.

I stood up at the top of the stairs in my very thin, red silk jockstrap and a cropped t-shirt that had the number sixty-nine embroidered in it with red metallic thread that matched the jock, and I looked down at all the revelers as they enjoyed themselves. A simple red mask and devil horns completed the outfit. I could barely fit my entire fucking cock inside the pouch. As it was, it protruded in front of me as if it were a divining rod leading me to my freedom. Or water? Either way, I felt like a fucking whore. A costume wasn’t supposed to make you feel the same way you felt every day. But this one let everyone know exactly who and what I was. A cock and a body made for you to worship if you had enough money.

I just wanted to go back to my room and pet my cat.

“You look as good as I thought you would.” Cappie’s hot breath tickled my neck. “Everyone here is going to want you.” I froze as his fingers brushed up against my bare ass.

“Don’t they already?” I sighed and noticed a group of hard-bodied boys walk into the throng of people gyrating to some horrible pop song. “I think this is a bad idea, Uncle.”

“When have I ever had a bad idea? Just keep your eyes on them and make sure they have a good time. It’s Halloween, after all,” he ordered.

“Those Monty boys are kind of trashy. I don’t think he’s as careful with who he hires as you are. They could cause a lot of trouble tonight. You should have warned the rest of the guys that we were having visitors. If they find out that they’re here, all hell could break loose.”

“They know the rules. If any of them start a fight tonight, I will throw them out on their asses in front of everyone. I don’tcare who it is. Do you understand me?” He grabbed me by my face and squeezed.

“Yes, Uncle,” I managed.

“I knew you would. I can always count on you, Ty. That’s what family is for.” He slapped my exposed ass once again and slid his arm around my waist. Uncle Cappie was a very touchy-feely man, but he had never really crossed the line. I was merchandise.

“I’m still worried about it.” I shrugged.

“There’s nothing that can be done. The mayor has made his fucking demands, and we have to pivot if we want to stay on top. Monty understands this, too. I expect you to lead the way for the other boys, Ty. If you’re playing nicely with our new arrivals, the other boys will follow suit. Do you understand me? They look to you to be their leader.” He pulled me in tighter.

“I’ll try, Uncle.”
