“We settled!” Savannah burst into the main office, feet ahead of Athena, who had a wicked grin on her face.
Fallon looked from Savannah to Athena and back again, chuckling. “I know you did.”
“I—what?” Savannah furrowed her brow in confusion.
“It doesn’t matter. That’s exciting!” Fallon switched into girlfriend mode from Athena’s office manager mode and immediately stood up. She wrapped Savannah in her arms and pressed their mouths together.
Athena’s lips quirked up at the move, her eyes lighting with excitement as she stepped around them. “Worth it? Very much so.”
“I assume you told Kyla.”
“She was there,” Savannah quipped. “She just had to go get Junior because he broke his arm at soccer practice.”
“Oh my God!” Fallon’s heart sank. “Really?”
Savannah nodded. “Holli took him to the emergency room since we were still in the meeting and it was so important for us to be there, but she’s booking it there now.”
Athena stepped forward and handed Fallon a stack of files. She was now back to work mode, knowing exactly what she wassupposed to do with these in the next week. “Remind me to talk to you about Haven.”
Haven had been the additional hire to help Athena on Savannah’s case, and so far, Athena hadn’t been impressed. Then again, she wasn’t the easiest boss to work for either. She’d probably made Haven’s life a living hell in the process.
“Sure.” Fallon settled the paperwork onto her desk.
“And you can go home, Fallon. I think you have some celebrating to do.” With a knowing laugh, Athena walked into her office and shut the door behind her.
Fallon scrunched her nose up. “I’m not sure I’m ever going to be used to her knowing my secrets. Or being that informal about them, either.”
Savannah canted her head to the side and looked Fallon up and down. “What do you mean?”
“That’s a long story, but she’s a different person now than she used to be when I started working for her. Well, even in the last two years of working for her. She’s much more…relaxed.” That was the best word that Fallon could come up with.
“Right. You’ll have to explain that one more to me when we get home.” Savannah winked at her. “Because we’re celebrating.”
“Yes. Celebrating.” Fallon cleaned up her workspace as quickly as she could while Savannah left to head to her apartment. She didn’t even bother doing the few last-minute things that she wanted to, knowing full well that she could get to them tomorrow. The pace was such an odd change from the one she’d had prior to meeting Savannah. Normally, she would have stayed late to get everything done and set up for the next day.
But her priorities were different now.
And Savannah was a big part of that priority.
Athena stepped out of her office. “I thought you were leaving.”
“I am. I was just heading out. Did you need something?”
Shaking her head, Athena pursed her lips and looked Fallon over. “Love looks good on you.”
Fallon barked out a laugh. “I could say the same about you.”
“But you won’t,” Athena added.
“I value my life.” Fallon grabbed her purse and put it over her shoulder. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
The drive to Savannah’s was quick, and it wasn’t until she was in front of Savannah’s door that she remembered that Brinley wasn’t there that night. She’d gotten so used to having Brinley around that it felt odd for her to be at a sleepover. Savannah had managed to get a protection order for Brinley in place, and so she’d been at Savannah’s ever since.
But tonight, it would just be the two of them.
Which meant…
“Well, hello there.” Savannah opened the door with a seductive smile on her lips, already halfway undressed. She had a silky robe on, and Fallon definitely wanted to know what was underneath it.
