I wasn’t the only one involved in this.
Tobias sighed, breaking me from my thoughts. I should probably get him to bed. If they came home and found him sleeping on the couch and not in his bed at midnight, they would think I let him stay up too late.
Wrapping one arm around his back and hooking the other underneath his legs I carried him up the stairs. Nudging his door open I carefully set him down on his dinosaur bed.
None of them had even questioned when I got him a bunch of things for this room to feel like his. Though it had been Lee’s room, it was now fully decked out in small-child decor instead of collecting dust.
Draping his blanket over him I quietly shut the door. I didn’t know when any of them would be home. I had told Dimitri and Mila to stay out as long as they wanted. That in the morning I could take care of him. I had no idea what Zane and Killian were doing, but I assumed they would be home soon.
Deciding on a shower I headed to my room and into the bathroom. Turning the shower head on as hot as I could stand it, I stripped from my sweats and Zane’s shirt before stepping inside. The water was a little warmer than normal, but the burn felt good.
I didn’t enjoy the shower alone anymore, so I quickly washed before stepping out and wrapping myself in a towel along with my hair. After drying myself enough I made my way back into my bedroom before pulling on a pair of Zane’s boxer briefs. Even if they were supposed to be form fitting, they barely stayed around my waist. Finally pulling over another white T-shirt of his I made my way back into the bathroom.
Just as I was done brushing my hair, the sound of a window breaking caused me to clench the brush. Peeking through the bathroom door I listened closely to any more noise. Before I knew what I was doing my feet pulled me towards the door. Opening it I found Tobias peeking out of his own door.
“What was that?” he asked in his sleepy voice.
“I don’t know, but go back to your room,” I said, stepping out into the hallway. “Lock your door and don’t answer for anyone but me, understand?” I said pointing for him to go back.
Suddenly very awake Tobias nodded, “I call Dada,” he said just as he turned on his heel and closed the door. I just hoped any of the guys were watching the camera system they put in my house were watching.
Waiting until I heard him lock his door I turned around and stayed in the shadows, carefully going down each step of the stairs. Listening and keeping my eyes alert to anything moving.
Getting to the bottom of the stairs I looked around the corner only to find nothing there. Taking a step I peered around the living room. Even as open as this house was, someone could hide. But I knew all the hiding places.
“They’re upstairs. I saw her carry the boy up there.” A man's voice spoke in Italian. Right away my mind wanted to go to that night. The night that changed everything. But I couldn’t think about it, because I had Tobias to think about.
“You two, go check.”Go check.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I don’t know where anyone was. I had no way of knowing how many men were here, but I wouldn’t let them hurt Tobias. I would never forgive myself.
Before I could move to give them the element of surprise, two very large, heavily tattooed men turned the corner from the kitchen, stopping just as they saw me standing there. Surprise went out the window.
“Fuck,” the left one cursed. Just as they stood there another one stepped up.
Three in total. I could take them.
“Take her out. Stop fucking standing there!” someone from the kitchen yelled. How he knew I was standing there was beyond me. Not a second later the one all the way to the left charged at me, his heavy footsteps echoing around the house. Grabbing hold of the vase sitting on the table I smashed it across his face and reaching around his throat I pulled myself on top of his head just as another started to charge. Kicking my leg up and around I was able to kick number two in the face, blood pouring from his now broken nose, before I wrapped my arm around number one's neck and yanked down as I landed on the floor. His large body fell with a thud onto the floor. Punching him in the throat, he began choking as I grabbed the side table and crashed the leg into his open mouth.
Dead.
Number three finally got a hint I wasn’t going down easy.
“Bring it motherfucker,” I snapped, cocking my eyebrow at numbers two and three. The blond charged at me. Ducking underneath him I ran to the kitchen, the third guy chasing after me.
“Dante wanted me to give you his regards,” he said as he sent a punch into my gut then my face. Something in me snapped hearing Dante’s name out loud. Grabbing the pizza cutter from the counter I pushed all feelings away. They were all going to die.

Zane
Killian and I piled into the SUV as my phone began going off. I wasn’t in the mood to talk to whoever was on the other line. Without pulling it from my pocket I silenced it as Killian pulled out of the club downtown. Just as it silenced it started ringing again.
“Fuck.” Pulling it out I didn’t glance at it before answering, “Fuck off.”
“Zane!” I heard just before I pressed the end button. Looking down I saw it was Tobias, from the emergency burner I’d given him.
“Fuck, Tobs?” My voice quickly switched to concern. Reaching over I grabbed Killian’s iPad.
