“I was tracking Leonardo, and well, Zane was following me. I hit him with my bat I used to carry around and broke his nose.” I shivered, remembering that night.
“Wait a damn minute. That was you!” Mila shot up to her knees. “Holy shit.”
“Yeah, it was me. I never leave anyone behind. But I couldn’t bring myself to kill him, so I left a note,” I admitted. The note. Ghost.
What felt like a few minutes went by before Mila’s eyes bugged out. “Y-you. You’re what they’ve been looking for. You-you’re Ghost.” I expected her to look scared, terrified, maybe even a little nervous. But instead Mila was laughing.
“Yeah, I'm Ghost. I’m what Luca has Dimitri looking for. What Zane can’t find and what has them all worried.”
“That’s too good,” Aziza finally said laughing to herself. “Okay, anyway, what else?”
“Yeah, well after I knocked him out, I got kidnapped by Matteo and his men because Donato was having a meeting with him. It was the only way I could get close and, well, while I was there, Mila showed up.”
“You hated when I would talk,” Mila commented.
“Yeah, I was there on a mission not to become best buddies with someone.” In the end I’m glad it worked out. But she wasn’t wrong, her talking grinded my gears. “Anyway, I basically ended up killing everyone there besides a few people who Dimitri took care of,” I finished.
Grabbing another slice of pizza I shoved half of it into my mouth. Aziza and Mila stared at me, and suddenly I felt judged. The hair on my arms prickled with the thought that Mila wouldn’t want to be around me. To not let Tobias around me anymore because I killed. A lot.
“Does Zane know it was you?” Mila asked after a few minutes of silence.
“No and honestly I don’t really know if I want to tell him.” I didn’t want to admit I was falling for him. I could barely admit it to myself, so telling them or even the man himself sent me into a panic I didn’t want to deal with.
“Why not?” Aziza asked.
“Do you want to talk about the man you’re in love with but haven’t seen in what, how many years?” I hissed, swinging my attention back at her. The moment her eyes narrowed down at me, but with pain behind it all, I regretted asking her. Aziza never talked about him. Never told me anything besides that he was four years older than her. When her parents would take her to visit her aunt and uncle, she’d met a boy who was her other best friend. I never met him, but Aziza never paid attention to any other men. It was always him.
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled.
“No, no it’s fine. I should move on, right?” Shrugging her shoulders she grabbed another bottle of wine. Not bothering with pouring any into a cup, she drank from the bottle.
“Okay, enough of this heaviness.” Mila smiled, grabbing another slice of pizza. “I have some news…”
“Okay…” I trailed off.
“I’m pregnant,” she whispered.
“I couldn’t hear you,” Aziza basically yelled.
“I’m, uh…”
“She’s pregnant,” I announced it to her.
“Holy… Shit…”
“Are you happy?” I asked. She didn’t seem too sure about it.
“I am, I really am. We’ve been trying for a few years, but it wasn’t looking too good for a while. But before everything happened at the house, I took a test and, well, yeah.”
“You don’t sound happy.” Leave it to Aziza to be blunt and honest.
“I am. I just don’t know how he will feel. We tried for two years, and then all this shit is happening, and it’ll just add more stress on him.” Mila sighed.
Before I could think about it, I blurted out, “I’ve been training Tobias every morning.”
Mila whipped her head towards me. “Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry. When we first arrived and he was helping me with the animals, he found my second training area where I have a few cars.” I couldn’t look at Mila. I could feel the disappointment.
