“Damn, woman, keep that temper under control. I don’t know. Pick what you want.”
“No. You’re involved in this, Townson. It’s going to be a vanilla cake, but I don’t know what kind of icing you’d like.”
“Doyoulike buttercream icing?”
“Yes.”
“That settles it, get that.”
“What if you don’t like it?”
“I’m not worried about liking it, I’m only going to smash it in your face, so you have to like it.” Silence met him and he tried not to laugh. “Dixie?”
“You’re not as funny as you think you are.”
“Sure I am.”
“You are a pain in my ass.” He laughed whenshe hung up on him. Life would never be dull with her.
He looked back out the window. It was a beautiful summer day. He wished his dad could have been here for this, but he knew his dad was looking down and smiling. Clint had loved Dixie almost as much as Logan did. The door opened and Nevada entered the room.
“Hey, how’s your nerves?” he asked Logan.
“I’m not nervous at all… yet. I’m sure the closer it gets to walking out there, they’ll kick in. Were you nervous on your wedding day?”
“I was at first, but when I saw Courtney walking down the aisle toward me, I couldn’t wait to marry her.”
“Dixie and I have been through so much.” Logan shook his head.
“But you’re together now and that’s all that matters.”
“True. Hey, Nevada, thanks for being my best man.”
“Of course. I’m honored you asked.” Nevada grinned. “Did you see the crowd outside?”
“No, but I heard them. I’m surprised it still goes on.”
“Well, you know Clifton, anytime to get together and celebrate something, they’re going to be there.”
“True. I’m sure the town hall will be packed.”
“Like a sardine can,” Nevada said.
The door opened and the priest stuck his head in. “Logan? It’s time.”
“Yes, sir.” Logan took a deep breath, then walked out the door with Nevada following him.
As they entered through a door to the altar,Logan looked over the guests. He smiled at them as he took his place. The nerves were kicking in now. What if she decided not to show? What if her doubts kicked in about his love for her? What if—
“You’re going to drive yourself insane.”
“How did you know?”
“I’ve been there. I had all kinds of thoughts that Courtney wouldn’t show. I was afraid she would change her mind.” Nevada shrugged. “It’s the way my love life was going.”
“But she did and you’re happy now.”
“And you will be too. Dixie will be here. She loves you, Logan.”
