She nodded, then said, “You remember the kissing in the elevator, right?”

“Yes. We were experimenting or something.”

“Correct. So, we can just forget about that, too?”

“If you want.”

She laid down on the pillow. “I don’t know what I want.” She sat again. “A shower. I need a shower.”

“Go for it.”

She got up from the bed, wrapped in the blanket, and picked up her discarded clothes on the way across the room. She went into the bathroom, then came back out a moment later.

“Apparently, we spent some time in the bathroom. There are wet towels, and a wet floor. Seems we had a pretty good time in there.”

Sawyer smiled. “I guess next time you ask that sex somewhere other than the bed question, you can take a drink.”

Chapter twenty-eight

"Don't make me throw this cup of coffee at you."

Sawyer was feeling remarkably well, considering how much he drank last night. And he wondered if it had anything to do with all the exercise he apparently got. He took three Tylenol with a full glass of water, then started the coffee machine. They’d left out the bare essentials, like the coffeemaker and two cups to drink from. When he got dressed, he’d put on his jeans, but hadn’t bothered putting on a shirt. So when Jade came in and wouldn’t look directly at him, he wasn’t sure if it was for that reason, or the fact they’d woken up in bed together. He concluded it was probably both.

He poured her a cup of coffee and handed it to her. “We’ve been through a lot worse situations than this, Jade. It’s going to be fine.”

She glanced at him. “I’m not so sure.” She sat at the table and took a sip of coffee. “It’d help a lot if you put some more clothes on.”

“Right.” He picked up his coffee cup. “I’m headed for the shower.” He started out the door, then stopped and smiled at her. “Care to join me?”

She scowled. “Don’t make me throw this cup of coffee at you.”

He laughed. “Wouldn’t want to mess up the clean kitchen.”

Halfway through his shower, Sawyer had a flashback to Jade being in there with him. He whistled through his teeth. “Wow. Okay. It seems we did have a very good time in here.”

After finishing his shower, he got dressed, then began making the bed. They’d be spending one more night in the apartment and one of them would be sleeping in the bed again. When Jade appeared in the doorway, he looked at her as she held up a card.

“Steve. The cute guy’s name is Steve.”

Sawyer took the card from her. “Right. Furniture. He wants the furniture.” He looked around the room. “Where’s my damn phone?”

“It’s in the kitchen.”

They both left the bedroom and went to the kitchen. Sawyer’s phone was on the counter. He picked it up and dialed the number on the card.

“Steve here.”

“Good morning, Steve. This is Sawyer O’Connell. You rescued me and my friend last night.”

“Right. How are you feeling this morning?”

“Not too bad. Considering. Last night’s a little foggy for me. But I do remember you wanted the furniture.”

“Good. Yes. I do. My brother is very excited to get it.”

“When can you come pick it up? We’re trying to leave in the morning. But I can always tell the apartment manager you’re coming for it.”

“I’m off tomorrow. I can come by in the morning. How early?”
