“Yeah. Just give me a few hours.”

She smiled. “Okay. I’ll see you this afternoon.”

“Can we…?”

“Before our ride?”

“Yeah.”

“I’ll see you in a few hours.”

“Three should do it.”

Sawyer picked up his coffee and took a drink. She was staying. She was staying here to be with him. He wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. But he didn’t care. They’d figure that part out.

He finished his coffee, then went to take a shower. When he finished, he put on a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt. The best way to work the poison out of his body was to sweat it out. And that’s what he was going to do. He took three Tylenol, filled abottle with water, then left the loft. He went down the stairs and into the weight room. He looked around. The heavy bag should do it.

Thirty minutes into his workout, Jake called to him from the doorway. “Sawyer.”

He turned toward the door. “Oh, hey.”

“I’m surprised you’re in here this morning.”

“It’s my version of the hair of the dog.”

“Is it working?”

“Yeah. I feel pretty good.”

“Did you forget we were supposed to head out to the herd this morning?”

“Oh shit. I totally forgot.”

“It’s okay. I sent J.T. and some of the men ahead. We’ll join them tomorrow. But be prepared to stay out for a few days.”

“Okay.”

“Take today to recover. Have you eaten anything?”

“No. But I’ll be ready when I’m done here. Are you volunteering to make me breakfast?”

“How’s an omelet sound?”

“Perfect. I’ll be there in about forty-five minutes.”

Sawyer spent another half-hour in the gym on the treadmill, then went back to the loft to take another shower. He dressed for the day, then headed for the house. He felt good. A slight headache. But considering how much he had to drink. He felt pretty damn good. Of course, that could have to do with the fact Jade wasn’t moving to Hawaii.

As Sawyer crossed the yard, Sage pulled up in her SUV and got out with a pink box in her hands. He veered away from the back door and went to meet her.

“Have you been to the bakery this morning?”

She looked at him. “Why do you look so good?”

“Thank you.”

“That’s not what I meant. You should be massively hungover.”

“It was a little rough this morning. But I drank some of Ember’s electrolyte mix, then spent an hour in the gym. I’m feeling pretty good now.”
