“Job offer?”

“In Hawaii. Some big resort there hired her.”

“She’s leaving? She can’t leave. They need to stay together and have babies with us.”

J.T. laughed. “That would be great. But Sawyer’s determined not to interfere with her decision to leave. He doesn’t want to hold her back from her destiny?”

“Her destiny?”

“His words. Not mine.”

Joey propped a pillow behind her back and leaned against it. “We need to do something about this.”

J.T. went to the bed and got in beside her. “No. We need to let them figure it out on their own.”

“Right. That’s worked out really well so far.” When he kissed her, she looked at him. “You didn’t drink?”

“I had two shots of tequila and a beer. But it was five hours ago.”

“Aww. You’re a good brother.”

“Sawyer drank enough for the both of us.” He cocked his head at Joey. “I know that look in your eye. What are you thinking?”

“She smiled. I think I’ll make Jade an alternative offer.”

“Such as?”

“I’ve actually been thinking about this for a while. I just thought I had more time to get to where I could make it happen.”

“What?”

“A three-way partnership in the Green Springs Inn. Me, Sage, and Jade.”

“That could work. But the place is barely paying for itself. You can’t offer her much money. Certainly not what she’ll be making at the resort.”

“Not yet. But summer is coming. And I’m pretty sure with their help, we can turn the inn into a profitable business.”

“Pretty sure?”

She kissed him. “It’s our destiny.”

“Right. I don’t want to stand in the way of that.”

Chapter forty-one

"It's my version of the hair of the dog."

Jade knocked softly on the door. Sage had warned her what kind of shape Sawyer would be in. And Ember had given her a thermos with something she promised would help him recover. When Sawyer didn’t answer, she opened the door.

“Sawyer?”

There was a groan from the couch and she took it as in invitation to come inside. She stepped into the dim room and close the door behind her. She put the thermos on the kitchen counter, then went to the couch. Sawyer was on his side with his arm over his head.

“Sawyer.”

He peeked out from under his elbow. “Jade?”

“Yes. I came to see if you were okay.”
