“Okay. I can do that.”

Sage started removing things from the cloth shopping totes. “You were gone early this morning. Where’d you go?”

“Hmm?”

“You were gone when I got up.”

“Oh.” She held up a finger as an email caught her eye. “Oh my gosh.”

“What?”

“I got a job.”

Sage turned to her. “Besides the one at The Corner Bar?”

“At a resort in Hawaii.”

“Wow.” Sage’s wow was less than enthusiastic and Jade looked at her.

“I’d almost given up on the whole idea.”

Sage went to the table and sat down. “I thought maybe you were staying for a while. Or forever. I guess that’s selfish of me. But I’ve gotten used to you being around.”

“I talked to these guys a month ago. We did a phone interview and a zoom call. But when I didn’t hear back, I assumed I’d blown the interview.”

“They offered you a job?”

“Yeah. Assistant manager. It’s a huge resort.” She went to the resort’s website and turned the computer around to show Sage.

“It’s gorgeous. How’s the pay? I’ve heard Hawaii is a pretty expensive place to live.”

“The pay is really good. And they’ll let me stay at the resort for up to six months while I find a place.”

Sage was quiet for a moment. “You sound excited about it.”

“I guess I am.”

“And what about Sawyer? He’s not going to be too happy about you leaving again.”

If only she knew. She smiled at Sage. “I haven’t decided anything. It just really caught me off guard. Can we keep this between us?”

“Um…sure. But I won’t outright lie to Sawyer.”

“I know. I wouldn’t ask you to do that.”

Sage stood and returned to putting groceries away. “If it’s what you want, then of course I’m happy for you.”

“Thank you. They want an answer right away. But I don’t need to be there until the end of April.”

Sage turned to her. “Don’t spring it on Sawyer at the last minute.”

“I won’t. If I decide to go, that is.”

“Maybe you should talk it over with him before you accept the offer.”

Jade sighed. “That might be a problem. Currently, he’s mad at me.”

“About what?”
