Chapter thirty-three
"No stampedes or rustlers. So, pretty uneventful."
Sawyer, J.T., and Jake got back to the ranch by early afternoon on Sunday. Sawyer was anxious to see Jade, and it seemed Jake and J.T. were just as eager to see their wives. How things had changed. This time, two years ago, Sage and Jacob were the only people they were coming back to.
Sawyer took the reins as Jake and J.T. dismounted. “I’ll put these guys away. I know you guys have better things to do.”
Jake smiled. “Thank you, son. I’m not even going to pretend to protest.” He headed for the house and J.T. looked at Sawyer.
“You’ve got someone to see, too.”
“I know. But wife and kid trump undefined relationship with my childhood friend.”
“Thanks. I’ll see you in a day or two.”
“If Jade got the job at The Corner Bar, we’ll have to go pay her a visit at work.”
“You got it.”
J.T. left, and Sawyer took the horses into the barn. “Okay guys. You’ve had a busy couple of days. Let’s get you brushed down. Then I’ll give you a treat.”
But first, he needed to call Sage and let her know they were home safe. Then he’d call Jade.
He dialed Sage’s number.
“Are you back?”
“We’re home. I’m putting the horses away.”
“How’d it go?”
“No stampedes or rustlers. So, pretty uneventful.”
“Glad to hear. I’d let you talk to Jade, but she’s working.”
“She got the job?”
“Yeah, she started yesterday. Ricky has her working a couple of afternoons to get a feel for the bar, then he’s putting her on four nights a week.”
“Wow. That’s great. Will you have her call me when she gets home?”
“You can text her, Sawyer. Let her know you’re back.”
“Right. I’ll do that.”
“Thanks for letting me know you all made it back safe.”
“You’re going to have to find something else to worry about now that I’m not fighting every couple of months.”
“I know. I’ll think of something.”
Sawyer laughed. “I’m sure you will. I need to put these horses away.”
“See you later.”
He ended the call, then sent a text to Jade.
“I’m back. Didn’t fall off my horse, or get trampled by a cow.”
