“Hmm. I could get behind that.” He stroked her arm. “Does this mean we’re not best friends anymore?”
She took a moment to answer. “I’m not sure what it means. And this may sound weird, but do you think we can keep it to ourselves for a while? Until we figure out exactly what it means.”
“Like not tell everyone we see we’re sleeping together.”
“Stop. You know what I mean. Your family.”
“Sure. May I ask why?”
“I don’t know. I can’t explain it. I guess I want to keep you all to myself. At least for a little bit.”
“Okay. I get it, I guess.”
She raised onto an elbow. “Are you mad?”
“No. Of course not.”
She laid back down. “Thank you.”
“How’s this going to work exactly? I assume that means you won’t be spending the night with me at the loft.”
“I’ll be spending plenty of time with you. Don’t worry about that. I just won’t be spending the night.”
“I can live with that.”
She patted his chest. “So, about the doing it again part. Is it too soon?”
“I think I can manage.”
A knock at the door woke Sawyer and he sat up with a start. The room was light.
“Oh, crap. That’s Steve.”
Jade mumbled and patted the bed. “Where are you going?”
“Steve’s here.”
“It’s seven already?”
“Apparently.” He got out of bed and put on his pants and t-shirt, then he bent over Jade, kissed her, and patted her on the rear. “Get your ass out of the bed unless you want to meet Steve's little brother in the buff.”
“I’m up. Keep him busy out there for a while.”
Sawyer left the bedroom, closing the door behind him, and went to the front door. “Sorry. I overslept.”
“Do you want us to come back?”
“No. It’s all good. Come on in.”
Steve came through the door with a younger man. “This is my brother, Sam. Sam, this is Sawyer.”
Sam smiled. “Nice to meet you. Thanks so much for the furniture. It’s great.”
“You’re welcome. I’m just glad someone wanted it and I didn’t have to deal with hauling it off somewhere.”
Steve nodded. “I guess we’ll start with the couch.” The two men went to the couch and lifted it.
“Do you want some help?”
