“Good morning, ladies. I hope I didn’t keep the two of you waiting too painfully long,” I said, as I quickly moved to open the rear passenger door for them.
Miss Snow stepped to the side, allowing Miss Libby to glide into the backseat ahead of her. Miss Snow grinned up at me, a mischievous glint to her eye. “You’re actually right on time, Josh. Thanks for picking us up.”
“My pleasure, Miss Snow. Now, where to?” I asked, sure to flash her a smile as I returned to the driver’s side and started the vehicle.
Miss Snow’s grey-hued eyes met mine in the rear view mirror. “Actually, I was going to ask you that. Where can we go for some live-action information hunting? That isn’t that weirdskyscraper.” She visibly shivered as Miss Libby gave her an alarming look, her brows arching.
Ah, I wonder if Miss Libby is remembering her own experience.
She hadn’t taken it as calmly as Miss Snow.
A smirk played along my features. “I know of just the place.”
“Excellent!” Miss Snow forced a smile as she turned to face Miss Libby, taking in her concerned expression. “What? That’s half the reason I asked the guy.” She shrugged, dropping the conversation as she pulled out her phone, scrolling and tapping away.
I wonder, Miss Snow, what have you found?
“I still don’t get why the hell you called him and not me.” Seth glared over his shoulder in my direction as him and Miss Snow led our little group through the dense forest.
“Look, Josh answered my texts. And you were passed out. Plus, it’s easier dragging him around than it is you. He’s actually quiet.” Miss Snow shrugged.
He hung his head, shaking it. “Rin, I literally came out and grabbed breakfast. Ya could’ve said something then.”
She scoffed at Seth. “Considering how cranky you are when you wake up on a good, hangover-free day? No thanks. Anyway, we had it handled before you showed up. All covered in blood and guts. And speaking of,” Miss Snow turned on Seth, causing Miss Libby and I to pause behind them. Miss Snow jabbed her finger to Seth’s chest, “why thefuckwereyouout here and covered in blood and guts?”
“Well, we did just have a Demon explode all over us.” Seth braced himself, hands reaching for Miss Snow’s.
She growled in response. “You knowdamnwell that’s not what I mean, Seth. Out with it. Now. Or your ass is walking all the way back to your house.”
He clicked his tongue. “I ran all the way here, so no big whoop.”
Lightning pricked at her fingertips, sending a jolt through Seth, his body tensing in response. He yipped.
I bit back the smirk which begged to make itself known.
Tsk, tsk, Draven.
You waltzed right into that one.
Not the brightest, are we?
“You want to try that again?” she said through gritted teeth, her voice mirroring that of which echoed throughout the meadow when she had questioned the Demon. As if she would destroy the man’s very being with a single thought.
Seth jaw clenched, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. “I needed to run off some adrenaline and pent-up frustration. I ran into a couple of Demons wreaking havoc. That’s it.”
She roared, “Two!? Two fucking Demons? Are you freaking kidding me, Seth?Alone? And there you were lecturing me. You fuckinghypocrite,” her pupils lit, her rage on the verge of escaping. “I’m not even going to touch the fact that it sounds like you went on a damn manhunt for no rhyme or reason other than to cause bloodshed. Even if it were for Demons. Aren’t you the one who said we had morals?” Miss Snow had thrown her hands onto her hips, staring Seth down, even as he towered over her.
“Like I said,Ican handle it. And the Demons. I came across them while they were…feeding.”
Miss Snow’s eyes narrowed. “Spit. It. Out. Draven.”
Seems as if Miss Snow has quite the flame ignited within her today.
Seth anxiously ran his fingers through his onyx hair, blue irises casted downward, avoiding Miss Snow’s. “They werefeeding on a human, who when I stumbled on them, was still alive.”
Her face grew a shade green, her eyes softened slightly, a pang twitched within my abdomen.
Interesting.
