She sat still in my lap, soaking in the information I’d just dumped on her. I waited for her to speak, to move, but she didn’t. When I felt wet drips on my arms, I turned her to face me, wrapping her legs and arms around me. She clung to me like her life depended on it, her body shaking from her sobs.
I stroked her back and her hair, murmuring comforting words in her ears, content to hold her like that as long as she needed. “It’s alright, princess. I’ve got you. You’re safe. I’m here.”
She finally pulled away, still sniffling, and looked up at me. “I knew there was something about you.”
“What do you mean?”
“I felt different with you. It was like my body and soul wanted to be with you. I was dreaming about you before I knew what you looked like.” She bit down on her lower lip, looking reminiscent. “It makes sense now. We’re soulmates. That’s what that means, right?”
“You own so much more than my soul, princess.” I leaned down and kissed her lips gently, tasting the saltiness of her tears. “I’ve always wanted to be with you. I’ve already said I’m stupid for it, but watching the twins have you was more painful than anything I’ve ever experienced.” I kissed her again. “Now that I’ve had you, though, I can’t ever be without you. You are my world and everything in it.”
She sucked in a shaky breath. “But the twins…”
I nodded. “I know I’m not your everything. I wasn’t sure I’d be okay with it, to be completely honest with you, but seeing them make you happy makes me happy. You’re bonded with them, Lillian; they need you, and you need them. We all need you. We’ll make it work as long as you are happy.” I wound my fingers in the hair at the nape of her neck and brought her face to mine. “I will learn to share for you.”
I planted a firm kiss on her lips, claiming her mouth with mine. Her tongue darted out before mine could, and I happily danced with her.
We kissed and kissed and kissed some more, as if it was the only sustenance we needed to survive. I didn’t ever want it to end, but then she shivered from the cold, reminding me we couldn't stay like this forever. I wrapped my arms around her, looking for the tattered remains of our clothes.
“Let’s get you home, princess.”
Chapter 45
Lillian
The twins were waiting at the doors when the elevator opened.
“Where have you guys been?”
“We thought something happened.”
“You looked like you just rolled in dirt.”
“Why are your clothes ripped?”
“How did you cut your hand?”
“What happened to you guys?”
They pulled me from Keir’s arms and took me to the couch. Aiden kneeled beside me as Nicholas left to grab water and towels.
Aiden brushed some stray hairs from my face. “Fuck, you’re so cold.” He grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and tucked it around me. “Are you okay, little one?”
I looked at Keir sitting on the other couch, attention glued to me with a sparkle in his eyes and a satisfied smile on his face. It must’ve been contagious, because my lips spread with a smile of their own.
I nodded at Aiden, eyes still on Keir. “I’m more than okay.” I giggled, feeling light as a feather, floating way above cloud nine. I turned back to Aiden to see him smiling too. “What?”
He chuckled and shook his head. “I just love seeing you happy.”
“We both do,” Nicholas added when he returned from the kitchen. “For both of you,” he directed at Keir as he rounded the couch with two glasses of water and a couple wet rags.
He gave each of us a glass, and we chugged them like we’d been parched for weeks. Nicholas handed Keir a rag then focused on me with the other. He wiped my face first, and I closed my eyes, loving the way the warmth felt on my chilled skin.
“She could've gotten sick,” he told his older brother as he worked his way down my neck and chest.
My face was growing sore from the huge smile I was still sporting. “I’m okay, though.” I placed my hand over his, just happening to land over my heart, and looked into his blue eyes. “I needed this.Heneeded this.” I spoke the last sentence quietly between us, and he nodded.
“He could have done this in a warm bed, though,” Nicholas tacked on.
