“Then why did you stop me?” I asked, sitting back on my shins.
“Lesson number six.” He planted a kiss on my lips, his chest still heaving. “Sucking cock will drive a guy crazy with lust.Yousuckingmycock? Insanity.”
A shiver ran straight to my sex. “I want to finish you, feel you climax in my mouth, like you did to me.”
“I want to do that, too, but not yet.” His lips slid over my moist mouth as he kissed me thoroughly. “I have other plans.”
He cupped my sex and felt my wetness. I was soaked. I trembled at his touch.
“You’re so ready, Angel.” He massaged me gently. “Your pussy’s drenched, and I can smell your need wafting from your pores. I’ve lusted for you for so long, since the day I first held you in my arms.” He kissed me again, leaving me rasping for air when he drew back. “You gave me a hard-on in the middle of that shitshow.”
I’d known this. I’d suspected it,felt it, all along, but hadn’t trusted my feelings, my dreams, myself.
“I’ve wanted you since…” I hesitated. “Since the first time I saw you in my dreams.”
“Missy.” His molten gaze warmed my heart. “I need to fuck you. I want to be inside you, right now.”
I baited my breath to say yes and yes.
That’s when a sound startled us both, a muted, insistent beep.
“What’s happening?” I stared at the night table where Javier’s cell lit up with red flashes.
“My security app alarmed,” he whispered, rolling off the bed, and grabbing for his cell. “One of my motion detectors went off.”
The blood drained from my face. Terror killed my warmthand replaced it with cold dread. Moving swiftly, he hit the light switch and turned off the lamps. The only illumination that remained in the room came from a beam of faint, bluish starlight streaming through a gap in the curtains. It allowed me to follow Javier’s swift movements. Crouching low, he retrieved his Glock from the night table, studied his cell for a few seconds, then stole to the front window and peeked through the curtains.
“Fuck,” he whispered. “Pedro is not at his post.”
A frozen tide of fear washed over me, not only for us, but for Pedro, too.
In the darkness, Javier was but a blur as he shimmied into his jeans and slipped the cell and keycard in his pocket before he stole to the closet.
“Is it…?” I didn’t want to whisper Bekker’s name, didn’t want to manifest such evil. The memory of the vicious beast blasted a chill up my spine.
“The cameras don’t show shit.” His voice was barely audible as he unzipped his duffel and pulled out his carbine.
My vertebrae turned to icicles. “You’re not going out there, are you?”
“I’m sure someone out there thinks that should be at the top of my to-do list.” He crouched low and pressed an icon on his cell. “Fuck. The signal’s out. Allen won’t get my alert.”
“Let me try the landline.” I picked up the receiver on the night table and pushed several buttons. “Shoot. No dial tone.”
“The line’s been cut,” Javier concluded somberly.
God help us. We were on our own.
I gulped so hard that I was sure he heard me croaking from across the room. One moment, I’d been on fire, enjoying myself in his arms, and getting ready to take the next step. The next moment, all pleasure and joy evaporated, and we faced danger that had me nearly hyperventilating and not far from fainting.
Don’t faint.Breathe, Missy. Breathe.
I stumbled out of bed and grappled for clothes, any clothes. I found Javier’s T-shirt crumpled on the floor and threw it on. I almost screamed when I found Javier crouching next to me. He’d moved so quietly, I hadn’t seen him return to my side.
“Take this,” he whispered, handing me his handgun and pointing as he explained. “Quick reminder. Safety. Aim. Trigger. Two handed grip. Like this.” He placed my hands on the weapon and demonstrated. “Hold the gun up, aim, shoot. Hide behind the curtains. Don’t move or make a sound until I give you the all clear. Copy that?”
My hands shook under the weight of the gun. “Are you really going out there?”
“That’s exactly what our enemy would expect.”
