TWENTY-NINE
Care for Us
The doctor dischargedme with a warning. Be more careful about the well-being of myself and my children. This pregnancy could turn into a high-risk situation if I didn’t proceed with caution and lower my stress level. I took this seriously because my children depended on it. I promised her I would, and I convinced her enough to let me go home.
But I was on my way to a new home.
Daxon Stark’s home. Our new home together with our children. A place to call home.
The limousine ride to Daxon's house was a longer one. Busy city streets flew by and the horns honked in the distance. The city lights turned into stop signs and the tall buildings became trees.
We exited the city and rode along the outskirts of it. A freshly paved road with a smooth ride through the forest. The greenery was beautiful and the smell of fresh air came through the limousine vents. Living in the city for so long made me forget how gorgeous the outside was.
Our ride slowed down and turned left onto a single road with lovely, flowered trees leading down it. We kept going until a modern mansion came into view between them. They revealed a place with tons of windows and different levels. The home was extravagant and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“Is this your place?” I breathed in the breathtaking view.
“Yes, we are here, princess.” Daxon said with certainty. “Welcome to your new home.”
He reached out and took my hand in his. I looked down at the sweet gesture as he squeezed it with reassurance and I peered up into his serious eyes. They shimmered with joy at my approval of his home. I smiled at him with gratefulness, and his kindness shone through. It was a new side to him I had never seen before, but it suited him well. His entire face lit up and his handsome features stood out.
Mr. Cold, dark and infuriating, had a happy side.
The limousine pulled up out front and halted for us to depart. Daxon opened his door and pulled my hand to join him. He stood up and helped me out of the vehicle with his eyes never leaving me. I had to make sure I was capable, and he had to be sure of it. He wanted nothing to happen to me and the babies. His protection of us made me secure in my decision to come home with him. He’d keep us safe because we were his number one priority.
“I’ll have all your belongings from the penthouse delivered here, and you won’t have to lift a finger.” He assured me as he kissed my knuckles and my belly warmed inside. “I’ll take care of everything, princess.”
This new side to Daxon Stark was a new beginning for us and my heart pounded for him when it shouldn’t. My mind raced at the idea he could change his mind. With us here, he could finally see we could be a family. This was a chance I willed myself to take. It could change everything.
My eyes shimmered up at him with gratitude. “You don’t have to do that, daddy.”
“I’ll do anything for you, princess.” He whispered as he brought my hands to my swollen belly and he rubbed it tenderly. “You’re the mother of my children and I’d go to the ends of the earth for them.”
I gazed down at our tender moment and it was perfect. His masculine hands covered mine and caressed me along with our babies that grew inside me. He wanted to protect us, saving us from all harm, and he wanted to do it together. This couldn’t get any better.
Suddenly, I felt a kick from inside me. Its force pushed my skin outwards as it stretched and my belly vibrated from the motion. It surprised me and caused me to blink repeatedly at the strange new feeling. But I knew exactly what it meant, and it warmed my heart with pure happiness.
“Did you feel that?” Daxon asked with surprise.
“Yes, I did, Daxon.” I smiled brightly with joy.
