I stared at the racks of fancy dresses and had a hard time choosing one. My hands ran over each one, but I couldn’t pick. My thoughts were somewhere else and a place I got lost in.
Images of Daxon ran through my mind and the enemy I shouldn’t crave consumed me. The remembrance of his magnificent body and the strength he held as he carried me effortlessly into his arms. The smoothness of him as he pounded into me and my world spun into an unknown.
A place full of red, fervent desire I never wanted to come back from and stay locked in forever. A passion that burned so bright it brought me to the stars and blazed me back down to earth. Back to my stone-cold reality and away from him. I looked down at a shimmering silver dress in my hands and was suddenly famished. But for something forbidden.

WE WANDERED INTO THEbeautiful restaurant of Lint Liquor, and I was nervous deep down inside. This was the first time I’d seen Daxon after our night of passion and our time I couldn’t forget. A forbidden encounter that never should’ve happened and never would again.
I clasped my clammy hands together in front of my glimmering silver low cut dress. It showed off my magnificent cleavage, and I dared it to catch his eye. I wanted him to remember, even though he shouldn’t. I shouldn’t want him to, but our wicked games rolled on.
“Do you have reservations for this evening?” The server asked as he looked down at his list and smiled.
“We do actually...” Dylan replied as he looked around and touched his fresh tie. “Reservations should be under Daxon Stark.”
His eyes didn’t even look back down at the list, and he nodded his head. “Right this way, sir.”
We followed him to the back of the restaurant where it was more dimly lit with candles on each table. Shadows cast on the walls from the brightly lit flames and created a calm atmosphere. It was something I needed to settle my nerves as Daxon came in sight and he looked way too good. His charcoal suit hugged his perfect form and his hair looked darker in the dimmed room. He appeared younger, and I pondered what he was like in his youth. I couldn’t envision him on the football team at high school or as a nerd in the chemistry lab. He didn’t quite fit in and I was curious, but look where curiosity has led me. Straight into his damn bed.
I tore my thoughts away from him and focused on getting a seat. A place beside my husband to be and to keep up the dotting fiancée act. For the sake of everyone and the company. Too much was at stake and I knew it. I couldn’t let his wicked game get to me or his deliciously perfect body.
But my eyes fell on her.
A beautiful young woman who I recognized from a time recently and knew exactly where. She was no older than me and her striking appearance I’d remember from anywhere. Even from inside a closet, hidden out of sight. Inside my future father-in-law’s office, while he had her bent over his desk and gave her the best time of her life. Just like me.
I glared in his direction, and he met my glare. His eyes burned into mine and I knew the game was on. He brought her here to make me jealous. I was no longer nervous with the uncertainty of him, but seething with hot bitterness. Mr. Daxon Stark had another thing coming, and he was about to get it.
I flicked my hair and turned my attention towards his hot date. “Who’s this beautiful woman in our presence?”
Daxon raised an eyebrow and looked at the gorgeous woman beside him. “This is my date for this evening. I believe you’ve met her at my office, Celeste?”
I blushed bright red and I could’ve sworn he chuckled deep in his chest, but he held his composure. He had to egg me on with the fact I caught them in the act and the secret remained between us. But it didn’t mean he couldn’t torture me with it, and that was exactly his plan.
Her eyes looked at me with uncertainty. “No, I don’t believe we’ve met.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I must’ve gotten it mixed up with a client.” He apologized as he shook his head, but he knew the damage was already done. “This is Charlotte Kin.”
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Charlotte.” Paisley said as she threw herself into the mix and nodded at her from across the table. “How did you meet, Daxon?”
We all took our seats. Dylan sat beside me and Paisley to his left. But I had to sit right across from Daxon and his gorgeous date. Not by choice, either.
Her cheeks turned rosy pink, and she looked towards Daxon. “Oh, it was rather brief at a nearby café and we just took off from there.”
Right into his office, bent over his desk, and he gave her the best time of her life.
I looked down at the menu and beamed towards them. “Sounds like a fairytale wedding could be around the corner?”
Dylan chuckled, but choked on his drink as he sipped. Everything went quiet, and I looked up at the reactions I had just created. Daxon looked at me with the usual look of annoyance, and his date blushed even brighter. She blinked several times, surprised, and took a sip of bubbling champagne. She probably was going to need it.
“I don’t do marriage.” Daxon answered sternly as he bit his bottom lip and looked me straight in the eyes. “I make sure every woman I’m with knows that.”
His gaze glared with certainty and I couldn’t help but feel he directed his answer at me. The directness in his tone was forward and straight to the point. If anyone else knew we slept together, they would’ve felt it too. But I was in this alone and had to put up with his craziness.
“I was only kidding. Relax.” I laughed as I brushed off the awkwardness and filled up my champagne glass. “You should have a drink, daddy, you look a little tense.”
He grinned my way and secretly teased me. “Fill me up, young lady.”
I did as he instructed as everyone laughed off the joke and I filled his champagne glass all the way to the top. Soft bubbles trickled the sides of the clear glass and shimmered with the candlelight. It gave a naughty mix with the twisted atmosphere we played. A game we found ourselves lost in, but I wasn’t willing to lose.
