I pinch the bridge of my nose.

“Christ.”

“It’s the only way I could get you to hear me out.” He begs.

“If you’re not buying anything then you can leave.” I state.

“Fine, I have $20. I will have three of the mini Victoria sponge cakes.” He smiles.

I growl, which just makes him smile more.

“$15 please.” I hold out my hand.

He places the $20 in my hand I go to take it but he keeps hold of it, forcing me to face him.

“Esme, I am sorry. You have no idea how much. I didn’t know you liked me too. I would never have treated you that way otherwise. I'm begging you, let me take you out tonight for a drink. I just want to talk, I promise.” He begs.

“Do it stupid girl! He's a hunk!”

“Yes do it!”

“If she doesn’t go I will!”

Is all yelled from various customers. I try and fight a smile but can't. Gaige smiles.

“Is that a yes?” He asks.

“Fine. You have one hour, come back at closing.” I relent.

“Well done girl. You'll only need five minutes with this one, I can tell.” Phillis says.

“I will see you later.” Gaige smiles and leaves.

“Okay the show is over. Number 25?” Amy shouts, giving me a minute to collect myself.

Shaking myself off I continue to serve the customers. We were actually all sold out by four, an hour before closing. I had to turn people away.

The girls help me clear up and I hand them both an Easter basket I made and kept aside for them as a thank you gift.

“Here. It’s just a little thank you for all of your hard work and a happy Easter too.”

“Oh wow, thanks Esme.” Josie says, looking in the hamper.

“You’re too kind.” Amy smiles.

I hug them both.

“Go. Have a couple of days off. I’m keeping the bakery closed Sunday and Monday for Easter. I’m not sure what you guys here do but it’s the norm in England. Plus I think we’ve earnt an extra day off.” I smile.

“See you Tuesday.” They both say as they leave.

I continue to clean and wipe down all the surfaces. I notice a large bag of flour has been left out. I grab it and try to put it on the shelf but I can't reach and I don’t know where Amy put the bloody steps. I grab a chair and stand on that. I manage to put the flour on the shelf.

“Christ, what are you doing?” Gaige says.

I spin around too quickly and wobble and fall. Gaige moves fast and catches me.

“Thanks.” I mutter.
